A girl is running from her crazed ex-boyfriend who is trying to kill her. He's wearing a hockey goalie's mask and weidling a Boy Scout's hatchet. He catches her, but she rips out of her clothes and gets away, temporarily slowing him down by kicking him in the nuts. He loses track of her as she cuts through the neighborhood zig zagging between houses. She hears him in the not too far off distance. He's still coming for her! She stumbles up to Layout's front door and bursts through the door, frightened, no shirt and torn pants. Layout promptly pulls his gun and shoots her three times center mass. As she draws her last breath before she dies, she asks in vain, "Why?'

"Sorry, my dear, but there's just no valid reason to invade my house and put my life in danger. No exceptions. Sorry."

There are no girls living where I live. Zizzaging through all 8 houses? I also LOOK! On top of that IF I ever had to fire it would only take ONE shot.

My house was broken into, lucky for the crack heads who broke in NO ONE WAS HOME. They invaded our house, our peace and our privacy. My wife has NEVER felt safe in our home again since. Yep, good thing letting criminals get away with it.

What is your problem? Can't stand people who stand up for themselves? Can't take people who have firm convictions? I am asking because I don't understand. Are you telling me you would NOT defend YOUR home or family? Nothing like not making things personal either. I like the goolie mask, nice touch this time of year. VERY realistic. Happens in Monroe county 5 or 6 times a week.

Turtle, do you honestly think this happens more than someone breaking into a home to commit a crime!?!?
I truly doubt LOS would open fire until he felt an eminent threat to either himself or a family member- in your scenario, I envision LOS protecting the girl from her crazed boyfriend.

I'm thinking he was being sarcastic.

Not only her, but many others have been protected in my home. Even by my sons, when my oldest was only 12. They followed their father quiet well in those matters.

The neighbor woman (there were 3 houses where we lived then) was being beat up by her husband. She ran to our house, the wife and I were out shopping. They heard her knock. Saw who it was and let her in. AFTER they heard the story they, in this order mind you, called the cops, made her a cup of tea and got out a baseball bat each in case they were needed to fight off the husband.

I was PROUD of how a 12 and 9 year old handled it. I taught them well.

No, I think people should stand up for themselves. I think they should stand by their convictions. I believe "shall not be infringed" should mean precisely that, and that every single gun control law is an absolute infringement on the right to keep and bear arms.

I don't believe that someone should be celebrated for shooting through a closed door at an unknown person out of pure fear and panic. I believe everyone should instead simply be thankful that she's OK. I don't believe that breaking and entering deserves to be met with death in any and all circumstances, and I don't believe that the prospect of killing an intruder simply because they are not supposed to be there should be greeted with such glee, and the fact that he wasn't killed should be such an emotional disappointment.

I didn't make it personal. You did that when you opened the door about what you would do and how there could not possibly, under any circumstances, be a valid reason for someone breaking into your house without your permission. I simply gave you a valid reason as to why such a statement is absurd.

Incidentally, the dead girl in question lived nowhere near you. She lives in town right by the Walgreens. How she got out to where you live really isn't important.

The girl in the story I posted acted in a 100% proper manner. Panic on her part? NOTHING in that story indicated panic, just the opposite.

Glee? Who said anything about glee? I don't want to be involved in the death of anyone, again. While I have never directly killed I have been involved in the death of the enemy, more than one. Even THAT indirect involvement caused MAJOR nightmares. Not to mention the nightmares from just the THOUGHT of the killing my job MIGHT have required of me. Would that EVER stop me from defending my home, and or property? NOPE!

Having said that, a home invasion is EXACTLY that, someone breaks into a home. That is NOT a crazed girl from near the Wallgreens that does not exist. There is NO Wallgreens near my house. There is NO town near my house. Must have been a differnet girl.

By the way, your statement was absurd as well. Even again.

I think my iPhone may be acting up , I can't see LOS whole post?

I couldn't see it either, earlier, on my iPhone. Nothing below the image showed. See it now from my laptop. I think it has more to do with the way the post is parsed for the app (perhaps the image in the middle?) than your particular app/iPhone.

Wild story, though, bravo for her. And, actually, somewhat typical for Oklahoma, at least in my experience in rural and oil field areas there. I remember going into a Taco joint in Lawton, and on the door was one of those big red circle slash deals with a handgun. Not a liquor store, or bank, but a fast food joint, which tells me there are a few people carrying.

Saw a lot more gun stores too, in surrounding communities like Duncan etc, than I normally see in small towns.

I agree, if it was anyone who had chased off the intruder, or was family or LEO, they would have called out. From the sounds of it, it happened soon enough after the initial break in sounds that she was confident enough it was the perp.

My wonder is, though, would she have fired if she had waited 'til the closet door opened. Seeing a person could make a difference.

I guess the lesson here, were I to try and explain what to do to a child of mine in a similar situation, is to try and instill wise choice-making and to then do what they think is right.

I once thought I'd never really want to own firearms for protection, but more and more I am definitely leaning towards it.

Seeing things like this:

92yo KY Man Shoots Intruder and Has No Regrets Good vid here, too.

and this:

Shooter who aided officer gives his account of Peach House RV Park incident

have given me pause and helped me realize, along with having friends and family who are well trained in personal firearms, that I'd like to be well-trained myself.
