My internship did not pay me to work....matter of fact I had to pay for it like another class?

But I am not complaining...in exchange for the fee...I learned from experienced people.

Needless to say, these companies that take on students without knowledge do take on problems regarding man power to train them as they did for me.

Yeah but it really isn't that difficult. You take a couple of days to go over options and then start filling out resumes and applications. If you don't get anything near you then the search gets expanded to other fields or greater distances, moving if needed.

It was in the thread about Obama buying votes, the same thing applies to the congress who created this visa crap in the first place.

Here is what I said;

Today I get this email about Hershey's and the 400 people who walked off their jobs because of the conditions they worked under.

They are paid minimal but it is a job, they are worked like some of us are worked - hard, and the are all working here as exchange workers under the J-1 visa program.

I can think of 400 Americans who can do that job and 400 Americans who will do that job to feed their families.

Is it corporate greed or is it politics and no one wants to ask the question "why are these visa programs NOT ended with our 15% unemployment rate?"

I will add that after thinking about this, I do not see a reason why unemployed people should be screaming about this because the visa program continues and should be stopped as soon as the unemployment rate hit 6%. There is absolutely no reason for any visas to be issues that allow people to work here until Americans start working again.

By the way Hershey wants you to continue to buy their products, they don't care. I think if Milton Hershey were running the company, they would not have used the J-1 program at all.

Sorry, Paul, that's hilarious. I know people who have sent out HUNDREDS of resumes, [lotta postage there!] filled out dozens of apps, [using fuel to go all over the county to do it], stopped at every 'help wanted' sign they saw, made follow up calls out the wazoo, made numerous return trips for 2nd and sometimes 3rd interviews, and still have no job.
My sister just lost her job at Borders - the 5th one in a row that was yanked out from under her. She is intelligent, capable, educated, well qualified in a number of areas, and she's professionally articulate [she's also drop dead gorgeous, but I love her anyhow, lol] and she is beyond depressed. Every job she applies for goes to someone just a teensy bit more desireable in some aspect - more recent training on specific software programs, whatever.
Move? She has spent 20 years making her home a welcome refuge from the ugliness of the world, and it's one of my favorite places to visit - why should she have to give that up for a job? Who could possibly feel confident enough in ANY job to make that kind of sacrifice?
And did you read the bit about how many personnel mgrs simply won't hire anyone who is unemployed? WTH?!
Dismissing the unemployed as lazy is just rubbing salt into some very serious wounds, and what kind of society are we becoming when so many do that?

I don't mean to imply every unemployed person is lazy, people who lose their job sometimes need a week to pick up the shattered pieces of their lives and I have no issue with that. The ones I have issues with are the ones that say I won't do that job and come up with some excuse. Those people should lose their unemployment because they are then abusing the system. It looks like your sister has had some terrible luck with jobs and I think that stinks, as Americans we are what we do and when things like that happen it is devastating. I don't know what state she lives in but most states have programs to help update skills, especially with computers. The issue of having to sell a house is a tough choice but you really need to look at what is best for you to get a job, sometimes it means a move.

When people who are family oriented spend a lifetime creating a home for their family, trading that home for yet another 'temporary' [because they so often turn out to be, no matter how 'permanent' it looked at the beginning] job is flat out insane.
When people can't feel relatively secure [which was a BIG part of the Bill of Rights] in their home, [and who can, if they may have to sell it to find another job?] our civilized society has gone haywire.
PS My sister is constantly updating skills via computer courses, but employers want actual recent experience - too bad, so sad, next applicant, please.

how much do you need to drive 50 miles one way each day and still pay your bills

ok next job 49 apply only one gets hired how long do you thibk some of them will be on unemployment . if every job is only hiring a couple of people . do you think it will only take 2 weeks . or maybe it may take months . and way things are the next job may be still 50 that apply for it becuase people are still losing their jobs . one job i applied for only had 5 openings and they got 500 people to apply for only 5 jobs WHAT DOES THAT TELL YOU that there is more jobs then unemployed people ??

and i asked how are they to pay for both places even for a few months on 10 dollor a hour . and how much do you think they are going to get for rent . when most that are looking are already unemployed and dont have extra money either
