I am surprised the owner didn't notice a big difference in fuel consumption either through purchases or fuel tax report?
Additionally, they can log on to the owner web site and see the truck is on.

yes..... i agree....
I know he can ..... but how does he know if she is out of the truck or not.??

You are in one of those between-a-rock-and-a-hard-place places; could you send an anonymous note to your owner suggesting he analyze fuel consumption in her truck, keep an eye on "?" (however it is determined when the truck is running for hours), and if he finds it's running for hours during the day suggest he beep her in the qc? (or can those be hooked up to one's cellphone?)
This is one of those times when maybe it's better to take the cowardly route, afterall he could receive such a note from anyone, not even necessarily someone in the same fleet.
If I were an owner, I would sure want to know about it (at least if I were paying the fuel); and I would want to know about the additional risk of theft if someone were to break a window and just get on in and drive away with it already running.

In? Out? What difference does that make? If there is a history of an average 3-4 MPG when it's sunny and 70, how'd you like to get the fuel bill? That kinda behavior is simply cutting into YOUR bonus at the end of the year. Nuther reason for you fleet owners to put contractors on 60% and give them fuel responsibility. Seems to me, if they decide to walk, you'd be better off parking it, rather than have a clown like that in it. That is just totally ubsurd.

That's a great suggestion. I wouldn't want to be responsible for someone else choosing how and/or whether or not to, conserve fuel.. then any running the engine for hours, and any unauthorized deadheading, and driving speeds, will be at the expense of the one choosing to do these things, as opposed to the owner paying no matter what.

It seems like it's very common to get loads under two hundred miles as a solo. If you own the truck and run as a solo I don't see these type of loads as a problem.

That has happened to me before.. sometimes hitting the 'refresh' button will work.. sometimes hitting the 'back' button will work.. other times, it's just plain gone!

Hey that sounds like the type of offers husb gets alot of times! So do the math.. are you getting paid for the 134 deadhead to get the load? If so, that's 270 miles for $417.. if not, that's 270 miles for $209! What's it cost to run the truck per mile? Will the new location be good for outgoing freight?

Thanks re the horses, I likem too.. husb not so crazy about them :D

As a bunch have mentioned, it is the total pay for ALL miles that the run would require. I would watch that number much closer than the run miles themselves.
A 200 mile run can be as good as a 1000 mile run, or just as bad.
It is what you wind up with, and where you are at when you deliver.

Very good points Dave about the quality of the loads. I prefer the longer loads because it keeps my drivers happy. Some of the best loads are the 30 mile loads from pick up to drop. Thats a $99 dollar flat rate at Panther.

Unless that is your only run for the day. While it may pay the most per mile, it may not pay your fixed expenses for the day.

On the other hand it might let you move up the board in a crowded area, with a first out after delivery.

some of my best loads are 5 or 6 total miles and pay $300 and I am sure the runs you do like that for panther pay them at least the same

99 dolla? What a bargan!! Can you imagine how happy the shipper {would be} if there quote were {actually} about $150, to have a man and equipment on call at their demand at that price?? Think about it.

KW there are too many of em. An remember, at BEST odds, 30% don't get the message.

Dave you have been a fleet owner a long time. What type of units do you run with Panther and are they mostly teams? How do you decide when to pass on a load?

It is a reasonable question. An answer would be quite helpful to readers, and especially aspiring fleet owners, would it not?

Good for you Morningstar. How many miles is that run? My driver has been stuck in upstate NY for over 24 hours. He started at number five on the board and he's down to number two now.

Yep he's still in upstate NY and is still number two on the list. Number one is not the first one out either. Two drivers got frustrated and moved up to Rochester that gets one load a day. Panther said the area averaged five loads a day and now they knocked it down to three on the owner website.
