Doesn't say in the qualification paper that fedex gives out say that you have to have
6 months exp in Surface, have the proper truck with equipment or be recommended
by another WG person to enter WG
. That's what was in my papers that my recruiter
gave us when we started at Fed.

If they throw the stinker loads on the load board, they will either be upside down on the pay, or it won't get covered. You think I'm gonna run some crappy load that you turned down for nothing? I know a lot of leased O/Os who know to ask for more money on a load if the pay stinks. If they don't get it, they don't run it. You're not helpless out there as a leasee. You're only helpless if you're waiting for "mommy" to do all of the thinking for you. Loads don't go out for less on the bid board than you leased guys are getting. They're going for more. Sometimes a LOT more.

Sorry, I guess I asked a stupid question? All I've been hearing about are: i)too many trucks for the number of loades, and ii)how cheap the loads are paying on the boards. So I asked an innocent question.

Just seemed to me that instead of having a whole pile of unhappy OO's who feel they aren't getting enough work, they could just hire what they need, and the loads they can't get covered, becuz they don't pay enough, or for whatever other reason, could go to the boards, where it has been said that people are picking them up and doing them anyway, no matter how cheap they are. And if in fact they couldn't get them covered even then, I guess the pricing would have to change, would it not? I wasn't picking these complaints out of the sky, but reading them as legitimate concerns of others, on here. So I asked a silly question, no need to get riled up.

PJ,

It wasn't a bad question. It's just one of myths that somehow get perpetrated over and over while a few guys who are laid over at a truckstop. There will always be O/Os around you who do nothing with their time but complain about why everything is set up against THEM!

As far as big boards go, there are bid boards mentioned on here (usually for backhaul use by expediters). They are of the general freight, LTL and truckload variety. There are things that, even for LTL are considered cheap, such as 6 skids @ 16000 lbs, that the broker has named his price at about $.40 per mile. That in my mind is a cheap freight load. But there are some LTL loads that if coupled together within a lane you want to travel, can produce a good rate. I probably didn't need to say all of this, but this kind of bid board gets confused with the one that Fedex, Panther, Tri-state and others maintain, for the purpose of taking care of their customers through cooperation with other expedited carriers, big and small. Just so you know, there are probably few O/Os that you know that have ever been privy to any load info on one of these kind of boards, much less be able to categorize what goes on there as "cheap freight." When you hear this type of know-it-all trucker talk, just do yourself a favor: RUN RUN RUN!
