I don't know.... if it were me, I'd prefer to find offenders without advance notice and warnings.

Full grown bears (uniformed state troopers in marked cars) sometimes hide in the bushes and sometimes sit in full view. The full view approach has a deterrent effect.

that is compliance to yet another set of rules...like a dirty truck, no uniform, you need to shave...wheres the safety in that? It is what it is...

It goes to customer service and the image the company seeks to present.

Well, perhaps it is a safety factor to the customer and their freight, as opposed to the truck's safety. I'm sure some of the freight WG drivers carry involves pharmaceuticals, food products, whatever, that Fedex doesn't want near animals. If those are the rules, they're the rules, and I believe the WG drivers actually agreed to them before signing up. If Fedex is selling a service which assures something, they better make sure they're providing it.

Exactly right!

hey a company can follow me around all they want and proof check my work....their rights END at my property line...
unless they have just cause and a warrant..it ends right there...

I had nothing to hide and to stop him would have made me look guilty. So I let him do the search.

I suggest that you reconsider that thinking. I used to think the same way but changed my mind after I saw this post by Tennesseahawk. The video he linked to was an eye opener. If you have not seen it, please play it to learn more.

We all get requests for no pets, nothing new there.

Pjjj, OVM, you seem to be missing the point - it is policy that simplifies the services for the customer. If X company has a strict no pets rule on their premises for everyone due to (say an FDA thing) and they ask FedEx to pick up a skid of their product with special instructions that is has to be handled with a pink pallet jack (which every W/G truck has) and temp control but picked up within an hour. Now FedEx has three W/G trucks in the area who can handle this but they all have mastifs sleeping in their sleepers so FedEx has to find another truck that has no pets and that truck is 300 miles away.

You understand what's going on so far?

So FedEx doesn't trust their contractors, so they ask the truck 300 miles away to bust a** to the pickup instead of asking the other trucks to put the dogs on the side of the road for a while.

The rule is simple, no pets for the elite of the elite, it is a blanket policy that is enforced for a specific reason. They don't want to pick and choose trucks based on another factor, and more importantly white glove is a voluntary group, no one makes someone join which means that you join with some restrictions.

I understand Drugs and booze...but where do pets come into safety equation? that is compliance to yet another set of rules...like a dirty truck, no uniform, you need to shave...wheres the safety in that? It is what it is...

W/G trucks do many military instulations that bar pets, but mostly the nuclear ones.No pets at nuclear plants. Therefore the no pet rule in W/G.There are many good contractors @ FDCC that stay out of W/G just because they have a pet, they are still called upon do do W/G when an extra truck is needed,as long as having a pet doesn't bother the customers.THere are also many Pharmaceutical companies they do that prohibit pets

Hope you don't forget to put truck in drive and just sit there.:p

Actually my truck doesn't have drive, it has second to start off in ... and yes I have forgotten.

Oh and let's not forget FedEx does not have exclusive rights to freight, other carriers also have the same access and a lot of those owners don't have pets or worry about people playing with whistles.

I'm sure he doesn't *want* to have to do this, but it's his job.

Actually, he seemes to find great satisfaction in the work. He told us the story of how he came to get the job in the first place. As a contractor and driver's council member, he has promoted the idea for a long time.

I guess the majority have to suffer with this because a few break the rules...too bad....

First off, I signed the contract. FedEx can enforce the contract. They are NOT coming into my truck. It is not so much about safety as it is about customer service. We often have couriers on board with us as well. Pet hair alone would be a problem, the pet really could be. We CHOOSE to work under those conditions. Until we decide that we not longer want too we follow the rules. There is NO privacy issue.

Don't get so defensive....I see...it is easier to have a blanket rule then to deal on an individual level..I get it...

I did not mean to sound defensive. I was just trying to explain. Sorry if it came across harsh.

Well It did..to me anyhow..i am sure some will even disagree with my conclusion as always...;)

I do understand about a uniform set of rules across the board..so dispatch doesn't have to sort thru, who has got what and where...and a contract so signed and agreed to...:D
