Express 1 teams

I'm looking to get into a truck for an owner. I only have one question. How is Express 1 for teams runs now?

I've heard different things about them from the past, and don't know anything about how they are now. I like the company I'm with, but this owner doesn't sound too cozy with the idea of switching. Any ideas? And please, leave Panther and FedEx out of the response.

Cheers

Colonel, as always your wit and wisdom (as cryptic as it is 98% of the time) is always welcome. However, this is not something for Larry and I. With all due respect, I know what the game is and I know how to run and how to make the money. What I am asking about is a certain company. I need to know that something is going to be worth my while before I go diving in both feet first... kind of like how your certain body part is in that pool your chillin out with your coolies.

I know of 3 D teams with E-1 and they are happy BUT I also came across 2 more teams that weren't... which leads into the Cols statement...no roost goose.

If you know the game, then you likely have already talked to some of their drivers. If not, and you are leaving the Fed and Panther out of the picture, you may want to post what your personal requirements are. Just remember, the grass isn't always greener. May be a reason that the owner is hesitant to switch?

Dave, I know the game, as a generalisation. Not what E1 is doing. That's why I'm asking in here. Hopefully someone can clue me in on it and give me a little light. I'm not trying to move mountains, just haul through them.

Rich, I've run for Panther. That cat don't purr. I remember brilliantly that they found us a grand total of five runs of 1,000+ miles. And those were sandwiched between runs of around 450-600. Not really great for a team, and nothing to write home about. I know that freight is a matter of getting it while it's hot, but Panther was way cold when we were there. Also, FECC won't allow my girlfriend in the truck because she doesn't have the required time with a license. That's the reason I'm looking at E1. If the company I currently run with will allow her in, then I have my answer and will actively pursue continuing with them. I love the company I'm with now, and would only go for that reason.

And for clarification's sake. I am not just jumping from carrier to carrier. I'm doing this to get my girlfriend in a truck. I have loyalties to people and a company, but this--most like everything in life--is flexible.

Thanks OVM. We just filled out our applications and are just waiting for the orientation and the truck to open up. Thanks for the input, we now have an idea how we're going to attack this elephant.

>E-1 has put on a glut of D's the last couple months...

Haven't they all? With very few exceptions they are all over contracted in all vehicle sizes based on the amount of time between load offers. Based on the truck on every corner theory they still need to sign more and are working on it. The problem is positioning I think. They turn down a number of loads every day not because of an overall shortage of trucks but because they aren't all ideally positioned.

Everything I've seen, for a few companies, shows that 9x% of the time there are less than 1 load per truck per day and only x% of the time are there more loads than trucks contracted. The trucks just aren't in the right spot to cover the loads and there's no way to fix that short of a truck on every corner. That doesn't fix the problem of too long between jobs and only makes it worse but it does solve the turning down a customer problem.

This isn't directed at any specific company. These are my observations and opinion.

I do not believe that the carriers have a problem with to long between jobs. That would be a contractor problem.

Problem is Leo, they "perceive" a "bad spot", and actually leave a good spot, to get in a pile with the rest of em. I watch it every day. Amazes me.

Best place I've found is where there aren't any of my company's trucks. A good bit of advice... if you're #2, don't park next to #1.

Ya know something? I started this thread for one specific purpose... To ask a question about a certain carrier. I have no idea where I went wrong, but ya know something else? I'm starting to think I should have left my typing fingers in my pockets or playing poker. What your 'good spot' is, Colonel, may not be approachable by everyone else. And when, not if, but when we start making money in this little venture, maybe I'll be able to criticise others about the decisions they are making. I would really appreciate from this point forward, if you keep your bits of wisdom and glimmers of the good life to yourself... or start your own thread on blowing the Colonel's whistle. I realise that I opened a can of worms, but in the end, I was just asking a question, not looking for another "pile," as you so eloquently put it, to be dropped on me.

Now then, I'm sorry if I blew up anyone else's good time, but I asked a specific question. If anyone has a worth while answer (other than the ones I have already received), then please forward them along.

Thanks.

Whoa dude, nobody whizzed in your Cheerios here. This is just one of many many good threads that take a turn or two from the original path but still contain good discussion. There's no need to go off on anyone for participating in discussions. If you need more input then something like "interesting twists but can we get back on the original topic?" might work.

Excellent point, Leo: threads are often like a conversation, and twist and turn and meander here and there, or go off on tangents - but a simple request for more pertinent replies would work, I think. It's just the Col's way, of typing can make people feel "put down", even if it was unintentional.
With the Col, though, you can seldom figure out if it was intentional, or not, is the problem...:p

My thoughts with the Col is who cares you usually cannot understand him anyway.
Just ignore what he has to say and go on as his thoughts are only known to him.
I love the idea that the threads are like a conversation and they meander here there and everywhere as that is so true. As with any good conversation every once in awhile you have to bring it back on track.

We have found there are many ways to play the company game!! If you are tired but do not want to go out of service go where all of the company trucks are and go to bed. If you are hoping to get that load that needs an immediate pickup and are familiar with the area go there as long as you are still in your companies express center radius. Learn your companies freight zones!
