Economy/Illegals/Laredo

My first visit had me scratchin my head - delivered a load to a warehouse (still in America) to what appeared to be non American warehouse workers - one with an "attitude".

"good jobs" makin "American" vehicles located south of the border.

Seemed ironic to view so many preventative measures to keep illegals from coming north of the border.

What's your point?

I go to a small manufacturer in Indiana and I have problems finding someone who speaks english and sometimes even one that can't speak spanish.

I think if this has you scratching your head, try San Diego within the enterprise zone where hardly a 'merican can be seen.

Oh I heard one today, seeing American Axle is pulling the plug on their Hamtramck operations because of the UAW attitude, the UAW has claimed that most of the parts being built today are built in Mexico so they even admit that there isn't much manufacturing being done, just assembly.

I have seen plenty of American workers with attitudes. You are in south Texas it has been majority Hispanic with their language spoken for longer than the US has been here. At first glance, due to preconceived notions it would be very easy to assume someone born in the US is non- American.

It is also completely legal for people who live in Mexico to cross the bridge daily and work in Laredo. They just need the proper papers.

While I am sure you can, I personally don't think you will find a alot of ILLEGAL MEXICANS WORKING in Laredo or any of the other BORDER towns...most of the Mexicans that come up to work, go back home at night to Mexico..and that is totaly legal...now as you move further inland and away from the borde, yeap, their are illegals workig and living all over our country thanks to our political parties (both of them) that have no desire to fix the problem....

Never said any such thing.

Then why act like you're their advocate?

When I worked for Michigan DOT, and watched road construction, most of the workers were Mexican. Now I'm not stupid. And I'm not usually naive. We had to get their signature on a paper that they had a SSN and were getting paid $20/hr. Really? Masses of "legal" Mexicans happen to outnumber whites and blacks (more like drown their numbers) for a job that pays a decent wage? Michigan knows what's going on here. They just don't want the appearance that it's happening with their contracts. Regardless, it's all BS!

Not an advocate for illegal workers where ever they are from. Not in favor of so called reform, the dream act or any of that. I am in favor of secure borders, deportation and very heavy fines for those who employ them. But I also not an advocate for assuming any Hispanic working in the US is here illegally.

I'm not either. But if it looks like poop, and smells like poop...
The problem with that being applied to the legality or illegality of Mexicans (or Hispanics if you are PC sensitive) in the US is that most people look but don't smell. A floating turd will clear out a swimming pool in a matter of seconds. So will a Baby Ruth.

Nice Caddyshack reference. :D

I'm not PC, therefore I don't care what anyone says about the issue. If it's fact 75% of the time, then I'd say it's safe to assume. We, as truck drivers, are a stereotype when only 25% of truck-car accidents are the truckers' fault. Blacks make up 53% of the prison population, while being only 15% of the nation's population. Southerners are called rednecks all the time, while only a few would be what I'd consider white trash. In fact, I see more white trash in the Detroit area than I've ever experienced down south.

But what it comes down to is this... it's up to the INDIVIDUAL to disarm any stereotype they might face. Because every stereotype has its origin in fact. (at least very few do not)

I do not see the term Hispanics as PC, a good number of those crossing our southern border are from other parts of South America not just Mexico.
