Eco Mud Flaps

We put on a set of the "ECO" mud flaps, the ones that are not solid but allow air to pass through them. We ran a load over the past 3 days, Ohio to CA. It was a very light load, 8lbs, so it may not be the best test but it seams that it has a pretty big affect on you MPG. We had been running in the 9.8 -10.3 range most of the time including reefer loads. On this load we averaged 10.6mpg. The range was 10.2 - 11.03. That included all the mountians and some areas with high winds. We will continue to watch the milage and hope that this is a real trend. Layoutshooter

I paid 34.95 each at the TA in Monroe, MI. I have seen them cheaper but I was home and wanted to get it done. If what I saw on this run continues they will pay for themselfs very quickly. Layoutshooter

I shall do that. I will say, however, that my milage seems to hold fairly steady with loads up to around 4000lbs, that is where I normally start to see the drop off start. At 1000 and the reefer running I rarely see a change. Layoutshooter

I saw my first pair last week in the rain and they seemed to work. They are by far a better investment than the Turbo3000.

I bought the Eco-flaps at MATS last year and will confess that I didn't track my mileage closely.
Back in October I had an adventure that caused me to need a backwards tow out of a hole. You could hear the 8 vertical veins pop on the flap, as it was forced between the tire and the ground. The advantage of the Eco-flap was that my pretty chrome and reflector flap holder escaped unscathed. I'm certain that if I'd had a standard flap the entire assembly would have been ripped off, not just the flap.
I ran thru the winter with one Eco-flap and one hard plastic flap and found that the snow and slush built up more on the Eco-flap.

I put them on almost immediately so I can't really compare mpg with/without. I can say that after a run through the snow when I'd normally have about 20 pounds of snow/ice on the flaps I now have zero buildup.

All it takes is a quick kick to clear them off. I was just comparing side by side. Of course, I realize that I've never paid attention when having the matching flaps to see if there's more build up on the left than the right.

I may get a set of these things, then I can put on my chrome big deflector and what mpg I lose on the BD I can get back with the mud flaps - and look cool being green/chromed. LOL

UPDATE: We ran a load that left Tues and just finished today, 04-17-09. From CA to AL. It weighed 4 times what the first load with the mud flaps weighed. This one was 32lbs vs. the 8lbs on the last load. Mileage ran from lowest to highes, 10.54mpg - 11.15mpg. Speed was between 57mph - 63mph. We seem to be showing a very strong 1/2 mile per gallon gain since putting these flaps on. More if I get a load with even a little weight. Truck Specs below.
