Dumbest thing ever done in expedite...

Followed the signs at consignee to the shipping & receiving office, where I handed paperwork to the clerk. I didn't think it was the dumbest thing I'd ever done, but she sure did - with acid dripping from every word, she said I should have gone around to the back [unmarked] docks.
I'm gonna practice apologizing for my ignorance until I can do it without a trace of sarcasm....;)

That's when I would of kindly asked her, "How do you expect me to know where to go, never being here before, if you dont have the proper signage? We drivers cannot read youre minds, you know..."

Man, places like that p*** me off. You check in with shipping, and they ask you what dock you're in. You're not in one yet because you didn't know where they want you, and they get mad. "How am I supposed to load you when you're not in a dock, driver?"

So the next time you go there or to another location of the same company, you back in, and they're mad at you then, too! "Did I tell you to put in a dock, driver?"

About 3-4 years ago I was talking to a van driver that was driving for an owner, He got a load and a cash advance. Then the load canceled, he took his advance and went to the Casino. Lost all his money, now had nothing to eat on and almost no fuel. Then went on to say that he had a wife and 3 kids at home. I just told him good luck and walked away before I slapped the stuffings out of him.......

I was sitting at what used to be a Williams-Mapco in Lebanon, TN, before the Death Star bought it and ruined it. I was on my 'puter in my truck when a guy comes running by, stops by my truck and tells me, "Hey, this guy just won a lot of money gambling over here. C'mon!"

I have no interest in gambling whatsoever, just don't find it enjoyable at all, so I couldn't see the need to go look at his ticket or whatever. This was before I was familiar with this particular scam.

Next time I bumped into my owner, I told him about it, and he told me how he had gotten taken by those guys. He had previously driven with a co-driver, and his co-driver came to him in tears, telling him he'd just lost his advance money playing three card monte. My owner told him to take him there, so he followed him to the back row of the truckstop, and sure enough, there were some guys playing three card monte. My owner watched for a while, and it looked easy to him. The dealer was raising the cards way up before he'd lay them down, and my owner could see the red queen clearly as it was coming down.

He decided he'd back his co-driver in getting his money back. The dealer asked him, "With what?"

"With this $350 right here!"

The dealer says, "Count it out in my hand."

At this point, I'm thinking, "You didn't..."

But he did. And the dealer says, "Ok, we're playing!" and lays down the cards. My owner started to say, "Hey, wait, I'm not wagering all of that in one shot!" but before he could get it out, the cards were down, and he said that just like before, he could plainly see the red queen come down. So he picked a card, and lost, of course.

He started to protest that he wasn't intending to wager the entire wad at once, and demand some sort of satisfaction, but the 3 or 4 guys sitting around stood up, and only then did it become obvious to him what kind of scam this was, and he was about to not only lose his money, but maybe his teeth, so he and his co-driver turned and walked away with their health.

I thought, "I'm driving for an idiot!" Nice guy, but if you fall for that... Only drove for him for a short time.

I had a co-driver from whom I picked up a bad habit. He would sometimes only pull the tractor brake valve. I asked him why, and he said that what you do in the winter when your brakes are wet, and since it's faster to get going again, why not? So I started doing it.

So one day, I had a drop & hook near St. Louis. The yard was full and I had a hard time finding my new trailer. It was buried behind a couple other trailers, so I had another hard time finding a spot for my MT. Finally found one, and was about to drop it when the yard dog came by. I pulled my tractor brake valve and got out to catch him before he could drive away. He was hard to find sometimes. I told him my loaded was buried and he went back to get it out. I went back around to my truck, cranked the dollies down, got my pin puller out of the sidebox, and pulled the pin...and watched my trailer roll backwards off the 5th wheel and down onto and then off the frame of my tractor, coming to a stop only when the dolly legs of the trailer slammed onto the ground. Heart pounding well above the legal limit, I tried to reconstruct what just happened, and after that, I resolved to always pull both brake valves, just in case I get distracted in the middle of dropping an MT.

What all was involved in the $6800?

Oh it smashed the qc bubble on top and smashed the roof in pretty good. The qc was about $2300 and the body work was about $4500. My bodyshop guy said the work and paint wasnt bad it was all the clear coat used. It was all good, the car wash insurance covered all of it. Cause when I pulled into the wash bay I asked the guys workin if my height was good and they cleared me to go through:cool:

Filling my 7.3 Diesel with gasoline - You don't want to know how much that cost.

Leaving the shipper without the freight (twice in 20 years)

Leaving for a run (3:30 A.M. hot load) in your family mini-van and driving 13 miles before you were awake enough to realize you ARE IN THE WRONG VEHICLE

I'd like to know how much.

When I was driving for FEMA I had a guy on my team that filled his Ford F350 6.0 Diesel with unleaded one day. Only cost us 2 filters, the 28 gallons of unleaded he put in, and about 2 hours time to correct the problem. We fixed it ourselves in a parking lot about 5 miles from where we filled up at. It was less than 100 bucks in parts and wasted "gasoline". (not counting the money it cost to fill the tank back up with diesel because he needed to fill up anyway)

Just wondering how much, that's all. The way you said it above makes it sound like it cost you lots of $$$. It shouldn't have if it did, OK. It's a simple process to correct and happens more often than you may think. One guy I talked with over this misfueling once suggested that "Gasoline" nozzles and fuel necks should stay "Round" while "Diesel" nozzles and fuel necks should be made "Squared" so this doesn't happen. Funny thought and great idea, know what I mean.
