Defund NPR Topic From Another Thread

from the OP:

You tell us what’s weighing on you and your fellow truckers.

so he obviously thinks of those here on EO as truckers...he asked the above..then to "Paraphase", he also asked ours and Americans thought on the economy...

I started with the thought of continuing the defunding of npr...several others followed...I guess that is an isue that when brought up (and it was talked about in the soapbox when they dismissed Williams) was on truckers mines, and also pertains to economic isssues of the country...

Yeah, you're right....we ALWAYS remove off topic comments and start another thread.:rolleyes:
Sarcasm noted, and there should be more of that when threads go off-topic. But the reception that guy got was just rude. He asked straightforward questions, looking for input from truckers about the issues that concern truckers, and most of the responses came from people who quit reading after they saw "NPR" and decided to change the topic to what they wanted it to be, rather than accept it for what it already was. That's rude and inconsiderate to any thread starter, frankly.

Here's a chance to have input to show the country what expediters are, and instead we get a bunch of people who show their aѕѕ by confirming the stereotype of the dumb trucker who can't recognize and stay on topic. It gives trucking a bad name, expediting a bad name, and EO a bad name, and the responses were moved likely because the admins were embarrassed by it all.

Tom Ashbrook (and his show On Point) is the epitome of an unimpashioned journalist and a moderator without an agenda, where issues are discussed on their merits rather than political hype, and are presented as a balanced, educated, and respectful approach to news and opinions, rather than the screaming-head approach you find on most "news" call-in shows. It is a show that a lot of people listen to, live and via podcast, and instead of giving feedback on what truckers are dealing with, to give them an idea of which issues they will be focusing on during the hour, he gets from us a load of off-topic crap about how the network is funded and how it leans to the left. Do you really think they will do a show about trucking and spend the hour talking about how NPR should be defunded? Good grief.

Again, threads are taken off topic EVERY DAY. The man joined, just as everyone else has, asked a question and was given several responses. It isn't unusual for new members to receive sarcastic answers.......when have you defended THEM? Are you suggesting this gentleman receive special treatment because he comes from a radio show? Did you check his credentials at the door? Perhaps had he been introduced to us by the admin team it would have gone smoother. Such as it is, I resent being edited and censored because someone didn't like my response. I broke no rules and I'm sure the Guy could have handled any response that he received.

Regardless of what they'll put on gubmint radio; the masses spoke. NPR is on their mind, like it is mine. It should be defunded.

Oh, OK, I didn't understand that because threads are taken off-topic every day, that makes it OK. All my friends are going to jump off a cliff now. Be right back.

You want actual dates, times and post numbers? <snort> I've commented on it a few times, but as for some specific post that I could refer you to, that will require more work than I want to do. In any event, what may or may not have happened at other times in other threads really isn't relevant. Even if I had never said a single word in defense of a newbie, it doesn't make what I've said here incorrect in any way.

Are you suggesting this gentleman receive special treatment because he comes from a radio show?
Frankly, yes. Not because he's from a radio show, per se, but because he's an outsider asking honest questions about what we do and what concerns us. An outsider comes here looking for information and input, and we as a community should make the extra effort to make them feel welcome. What I'm sugesting, and stating outright, that what happened is a stark illustration of just how rude and inconsiderate the membership can be here at times to new people, especially to outsiders. Same thing happened a while back when someone from another media outlet was looking for information about trucking. It was just as ugly.

Did you check his credentials at the door?
Yes I did. While I'm familiar with the show, I'm not familiar with all of the show's producers, so I checked him out. Did you? And if not, why not?

Perhaps had he been introduced to us by the admin team it would have gone smoother.
Of that I'm certain.

Well, I won't presume to speak for the guy, and I have no idea if e could have handled them or not. I know if it were me, I'd prefer to have responses which were on-topic, rather than have to wade through a bunch of off-topic crap. But I do know that just because certain rules aren't always enforced doesn't mean that those rules cannot be broken. Staying on-topic is actually one of the rules. It's not always enforced, or even often enforced, but it is enforced on occasion.

I seemed to have missed "the action", but from what I have been told and read here, it would seem to me that this gentleman has his show :(

Now how is a comment like that supposed to foster the free exchange of ideas and information? And coming from a moderator makes that comment even more unprofessional and very disappointing.

Turtle, I'm with you 100% on this.

We have an "outsider" who wants to put a driver on the air (specifically a non-trucking national radio show) and we throw all kinds of off topic comments at him - not a single one that he can do anything about.

I missed it as well, but I doubt he got anything beyond a bad impression. When someone from NPR asks for truckers' opinions on several subjects, [none of which were NPR], and what he gets are comments that "NPR should be defunded [because they're 'too liberal']" how intelligent do we look?
There are times and threads where going off topic is no big deal, but some require responses that simply answer the question asked - it's got to be annoying to those who ask for specific information, and get something else instead. :(

Serious question here. Did you expect anything less?

This is of your making, own it. For you to be so appalled at what kind of reception a person from all places, NPR(are you kidding me), would be treated here is quite hilarious.
