Hi,
We run team for Con-Way however we do hear that running solo for them is good too. We don't make the big buck per mile like a FedexCC does on certain loads but we run fairly consistantly. Con-Way pays a flat rate now to D units $1.15 per mile for runs over 200 miles and I think...$1.30 or so for loads less than 200 miles. The redeeming factor for solo's with Con-Way is their tranfer practice. They will for example, take a 1000 mile run and split it for two solo's. Because there are Con-Way terminals everywhere this helps the solo driver. Another factor we like about Con-Way is when we get out to Arizona or California they don't back haul you for cents per mile...they get you regular paying loads back. Con-Way does have it's pitfalls like all the other companies do, but they do pay 20 cents per mile dh pay after the first 50, have a pretty decent fuel surcharge, pay New England surcharges etc...I have seen other posts here from solo's that indicate that going with a smaller mom and pop type company is good for solo's too. Good luck to you.
