Simple answers please, i am wondering Conway Now's solo driver average miles 3-4 weeks with 5-7 days off. What is the average income I know ask a recruiter but they are paid to get me to sign on so I want real world figures.

Thanks

I don't know much about their income, but i do know that they assess you so many points on your logs for screw ups,and if you pass their number of points they send you back to their logging school.Which you have to go back to Ann Arbor,Mi.For.

I beleive most, if not all companies do have some sort of log review, and warnings/penalty for errors.

The reason being, THEY get audited ... if they haven't caught the errors, and done something about it.. THEY can be fined. We see those stories all the time.

We run team with conway and stay busy most of the time, solos we talk to do really well if they stay on the east coast its different with each class (van, straight, tractor) some run steadier than others. As for the log stuff just run legal and they don't have a problem with you the reschool thing is just a legal requirment. They just started sending the logs through a service so tghings may get more strict. good luck

Hi,

We run team for Con-Way however we do hear that running solo for them is good too. We don't make the big buck per mile like a FedexCC does on certain loads but we run fairly consistantly. Con-Way pays a flat rate now to D units $1.15 per mile for runs over 200 miles and I think...$1.30 or so for loads less than 200 miles. The redeeming factor for solo's with Con-Way is their tranfer practice. They will for example, take a 1000 mile run and split it for two solo's. Because there are Con-Way terminals everywhere this helps the solo driver. Another factor we like about Con-Way is when we get out to Arizona or California they don't back haul you for cents per mile...they get you regular paying loads back. Con-Way does have it's pitfalls like all the other companies do, but they do pay 20 cents per mile dh pay after the first 50, have a pretty decent fuel surcharge, pay New England surcharges etc...I have seen other posts here from solo's that indicate that going with a smaller mom and pop type company is good for solo's too. Good luck to you.

I've all but decided to sign on with Con-Way NOW. After a lot of research I decided against a Class D truck for solo operations. I discovered that a tractor provided a much better opportunity for solo drivers. I haven't confirmed it but I believe that Con-Way NOW has a much smaller number of tractor operators versus straight trucks, plus they also offer full truck loads and not just expedited loads for their tractor operators. I've been working with Matt Massey (recruiter) for the past 6 months and he also told me that I would be better off, solo, with a tractor versus a straight truck.

Good Luck,

This answer is based only on my personal experience. I am not recommending any company or putting down any company. I started with Express1 and then for some personal reasons moved to Tri State and ran team and added a solo truck. Later went solo in both trucks. At that point I went back to Express1. I have found that E1 meets my personal needs for solo trucks. My trucks run during slow periods and always produce a stedy income. It is very slow during the first two weeks of July but outside of that I have found them to be the best for me as solo. They are also just great to me and I have yet to have one complaint about them from my standpoint. I have heard others say things about them that is less than positive but I am very happy there. They have been wonderful to me. The trucks seem to easily get 1600 a week and if a driver will and can run they can do well over 2000. It is been very consistant.

A couple months ago, I was sitting at a truck stop lunch counter and figured out that one of the other guys was the driver of a Conway Now Sprinter van parked outside (do they call them B-units at Conway?). I struck up a conversation with him that lead to a van tour eagerly given. It turned out that he was a former tractor/trailer driver that gave it up for B-unit expediting.

He claimed to be doing quite well. The number he gave was gross of $80,000 a year. I have no idea if that is a believable number or not, being a straight truck team driver myself. I expressed surprise at that high number and asked him the secret of his success. Without hesitation he responded, "I accept all loads." Perhaps others here can tell me if that's a fair-market number (assuming the guy was a hard worker and man of good faith), or if he was pulling my leg.

The van was relatively new and he claimed it was paid off. Having seen it close up inside and out, it looked well cared for and well organized for the job.
