Not a bad piece, Wrong on one thing though. There is no 'right-vs.-left' in congress. There is only Far left and extreme left.

The article had a proposal for keeping the congress critters out of Washington D.C. Sounds like a step in the right direction to me.

You know the problem with bad cops? They make the other 5% look bad.

Good idea. Triple the number of them with the same pay and budget as the current batch. Reverse the schedules, having them in DC the amount of time they are currently home and working in office in their district where they are accountable the rest of the time.

Nope it isn't good as it could be, here is what is a good idea - term limits imposed at the constitutional level with the repeal of the 17th amendment and a clear path to recall any sitting congressman within the same amendment.

He makes a good case but the confusion on how this would work would not allow it to work as intended and too many in congress would also limit the voice of the people by bogging down the process already in place. The problem right now is not that the house just doesn't listen but it is made up of career politicians which instantly defeat the purpose of representing the people. Having more career politicians means more money being spent and less representations. Case in point - Dingle. 57 years in the house, his father 25 years before that and his son sounds like he will be in the same seat when he kicks off. It is actually a sad commentary of our country and our political system.

However, the limitation of terms (2 for representatives and 2 for senators and maybe no representative going to the senate or vice versa) and the state to have a say in their senate choices with recalls for both would be more effective and a vast improvement than any other thing.

How about this? Have each district buy ONE HOUSE for their rep and family to live in while in Washington. The People in the district set the wage and benefit package for the rep. That wage/benefit package should not be allowed to exceed the average of the district. Repeal the 17th and impose term limits as well.

Only have a 90 session, in summer, with no AC. NO pay unless there is a balanced budget, on time. That goes for the president and vice-president as well.

Part time won't work, too many things they need to do like throw big parties for retiring congressmen who were not doing their job.

Yeah the retirement parties are much more important than reading and understanding the bills they pass.

Yes they do, and the last time there was a bill named after one, they got a pretty d*mn good retirement package and everyone in congress gave them a standing ovation because they are special.

Oh, I didn't say that was or would be as good as it gets, just that it would be good, a step in the right direction.

How is having more people in congress going to help, don't answer that but think for a minute about it ... more people ... in congress...

If nothing else create a good ol longjam in congress. Or maybe just break down the business as usual habits.

This idea has been around for quite some time, the actual first proposed admendment to the Constitution. See: Article the First - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Actually has been ratified by several states. Would be interesting to see support for this idea take off. Can you imaging the indignation from our current crop of legislators if this were ever fully ratified by the states?

The way things are now I would like to see the admendment passed. Yes sir I think there would be much sqawling done by some congress critters and lobbyist alike if it ratification occurred.
