"There should be a law!" Greg, you never disappoint. I hope you were being facetious.
Nope being very serious.
Otherwise, is there any level of freedom, including none, that's too little for you?
Freedom to put in danger kids?
OK I'm all for that, let's start with eliminating the stupid idea that we need car seats and seat belts but until we figure out how to beat the physics of a truck weighing up to 80,000 lbs, I think kids need to be somewhere else.
Are there any areas of life you consider to be none of the government's beeswax?
Almost everything, I don't know where you think I'm all for government intervention in everything but it seems I've given you the imporession I want more laws when I want the opposite. I just find that many don't get to basic things in our industry, one is that the feds are mandated to regulate interstate commerce which we, the people gave them that mandate and two we are a silent industry where most of us complain but don't do anything else.
For this issue, it is simple, my safety was threatened once and a kid who was running around a truck stop was another situation that reinforced my idea Kids Don't belong in Trucks.
The first incident was when a tractor that was passing me had the kid grab the wheel because he could not balance himself as he went into the sleeper, It almost cost me my life. After the driver pulled into the TS, I had words with his daddy about it and he defended his kids actions.
The second was a kid (9 years old) was running into the truck stop because his dad told him to get a soda. He ran in between a couple trucks and ran right in front of one that was pulling out of the fueling area. I and another person lunged to pull the kid out of the way of the truck and almost got killed doing it. The father wasn't a bit apologetic over it and 'suggested' to the kid to look both ways.
Whether or not you feel it is a freedom to let your kids run around a truck stop - the same one that I almost got run over wearing safety yellow in noon time sun - there is a point that we have to look at the work that is being done and question whether or not there is a risk to others or the kids.
I guess it comes down to common sense, would you let your kids go to work with you if you worked in a mine?
Reminds me of the congressional hearings on steroids in baseball. Some wondered, "Where does congress get authority to meddle in this?" One assclown congressman addressed that by saying, "Well, it's not like it's happening on the moon..." causing one writer to remark something to the effect of, "See? Congress does recognize that something, somewhere is beyond their authority: the moon."
Well you know why they were there asking those questions - it is american's past time and we have a national interest in the 'game'. While you may complain about the hearings, I want to see government get out of sports and lift the protections of both NFL and Baseball - talk about anti-competitive. I also would want to see the laws relating to copyrighting and trademarking for public colleges be gone too, all that belongs to the people.
TO the OP, do not mind my comments, it is not a reflection of you personally, it is just something I am concerned about and think your kids would be smarter than those two.
