Just a tip as well,.the micro fleece blankets that walmart sells for about $20, if you wrap yourself in one of those you stay more than warm. We used that in our van before we had the espar installed in it. We never used sleeping bags because I have this weird thing about being anle to move my feet.

Funny you say that Jenny, I use one of those Walmart blankets as my 40-50 degree cover, use one at home also. Great blankets! Use the sleeping under 40 and add heater when under 20-25.

I'll tell ya....at -40 to -50 my Honda did not want to run....the oil was getting to thick and was tripping the low oil sensor thus shutting it off....

-76 at some mine I delivered to in Northern Minn.
Thick crap in a tanker.
It was an eye opener, for sure.
I immediately headed south.

Never have I stayed in a hotel, and I have a "big buddy" heater for my so-called fourth level of cold, but anything below -10 calls for a hotel and a trip south.

I purchased the Chicago heater yesterday at Harbor freight here in Fargo, Nd...Friday night it was -4 here w/o wind chill & I used a Sunbeam electric 1500 wt. heater from home with my generator with 2 gallon of gas in it. ...warm enough just to get dressed in & out of mummy sleeping bag ...7 hr. of run time.....Last night 0 degrees & tried out the Chicago heater. ...9.5 gen. run time. ..but no change of temp. inside van sleeping area.....So today Chicago heater gets returned and when home for T-day the other electric heater goes back in storage at home.... And my big Buddy heater comes back on road with me.... just for info my cube van has 2 layers of insulation ( 1 1/2 in. ) thick on ceiling & 1 layer 1/2 in. thick on sidewalls. ....never got 2nd layer on sidewalls...but will soon. .lol

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the measure of how much heat an electric heater creates how many watts it uses? In other words, without exception all 1500 watt electric heaters put out the same amount of heat. Of course some, like a parabolic heater, will be better at directing the heat but it's still 1500 watts of heat.

Do you have Reflectix or something similar with the insulation? I was thinking that might help bounce the heat around inside the sleeping area.

That stuff doesn't really do much...the key is good solid 2" of sealed foam..spray is the best.. but sheets wiil do
.as long as there sealed ..cracks filled..no gaps..

Yes, Paul mostly. .1 rst. layer to seal up gaps & seams and 2nd. layer for insulating & heat reflecting value....

Did you insulate the floor in your sleeping area?

I wonder if an insulated curtain would help by cutting down on the amount of area you are trying to heat plus slow down air flow.

If I could I would..trust me..but no practical way .I do have a 3/8" sub floor screwed and sealed over the factory floor ...sealing for the little drafts make a big diffrence
