Why do so many try to make the smallest engine do the biggest jobs? With the exception of OVM and his 25 mpg avg 5cyl diesel sprinter, I would say this is not a good thing to do.I do not see where anyone can achive longevity and dependability from the smaller gasser engine.A few have tried that on here and it appeared they werent too successful.[/QUOTE]
I've got a 2006 chevy ext cargo van, 4.8 auto. fuel mileage has averaged 16.7 over the last 2 years. Run +110,000 miles a year, and just normal maintenance done to it. Only major problem was battery and it has just been replaced. Had 92,000 on it when I bought it and I'm thinking it will last another 1.5 to 2 years of driving before any thing major breaks. :)

335,537 miles on a 4.8...no major repairs...water pump alternator....regular maintainance...16-18 mpg....

I don't see a problem with the 4.8's...I had a 318 V8 and have over 500K and it still runs..But a V6 I personally wouldn't try doing this...

some of those penske trucks get an honest 12mpg:eek:!. that is 2 better than a strt and at a much lower rate per mile. eats up a lot of gas. at 60 the hcv has been consistent over 15 with a 16.8 one tank.

I dont know what happened yesterday, but I filled up in Florence at the T/A, and topped off at the T/A in Monroe.239 miles, 13.1 gallons.18.2 mpg.And I was running 70 most of the way, 900# in the back.Still scratching my head.No fuel additive, either.I usually average around 15-16.5, running 65-70.

Prolly a tail wind from the south...I do better northbound most times..and your route is pretty flat cept for the Covington KY downhill...and ya can't do 70 from Cinnci thru Dayton...unless you are breaking the speed limits of the CZ...and if ya do 70 in Ohio..you are really taking a chance...

70 in ohio on the interstate ain't goin to raise too many eyebrows....now that sad, the toll rd can be a different story....the story is that the state troopers on the toll road are the "problem childs" and they are sent there as punishment, i have been stopped out there more then once for 5 over, but never have been ticketed....never been stopped or ticketed on the interstates in ohio at 5 over...even when passing them sitting in the middle....

My 2008 Ford E250 w/4.6 gets 17 to 18 mpg. I stay at 65 mph no matter if the limit is 65 or 70. I use the cruise control no matter what, and it runs fine with heavier loads.
