Carrier cutting rates

May be on to something. E-1 drivers can profit off the reduced rates by dropping the load 50 miles from the actual delivery. Can't believe I overlooked that profit making potential.
Seems more than reasonable. If the cut the rate, cut the delivery.

Wouldn't it be smarter to just go somewhere else? :p

Actually you do. As someone who hired and managed hourly workers for a long time, one of the most common things I heard was, "I need more hours." And it didn't matter whether they were working 20 hours a week or 40, more hours meant more money.
I can see that being common in the food service industry, especially chain restaurants where probably 60% of the employees are part-timers. Most full time working adults with half a brain and given the choice of more hours or an hourly pay raise, would choose the raise.

Now I have to go because we have to hit the road. Just dropped in PA and heading to pick up a load in PA to Laredo for Monday drop and redlivery Laredo for drop in Michigan for Tuesday night. :D

B.S. I was just in Laredo this past thursday. When we left there were 7 straight trucks sitting and waiting to get out and they are pre-dispatched?

That's true, but they wouldn't be as likely to choose the raise if it also meant having to work less hours and bringing home less money overall, which is the choice presented in the thread.

I think they had more than that there Friday. We got there Friday afternoon and got a load that went to Michigan but picked up Saturday and delivered Monday.
But it is hard to tell the truck count down there if you are in a office in Michigan. ;)
But of course......some might be "special".
Eddie has it figured out.

I don't think any of the crap they posted on here made anyone wake up today and say "Maybe they did do it for MY benefit."

No I don't think they are the same. Drinking buddies maybe. That would be a hoot, plan this all out on cocktail nappkins.........

I do know, I wouldn't want to be a recuriter. They think it was hard find fleet owners and O/O before, boy, they are going to be busting down the doors to sign up come Monday. (insert Whatever you want here).

A reduced rate is what they came up with. I guess to slow the flood.

I have no idea who they actually are but it is rather obvious they are working in the office for E-1. They carry the attitude that drivers are all just a bunch of dummies so they thought they could just make up a bunch of BS and everyone would fall for it. Apparently they thought claiming that they were now running tons of miles because of a rate cut, that hasn't even happened yet, would fool all those idiot drivers. If the rates don't keep you away maybe the fact that the company apparently supports a poor attitude toward the drivers will.

"Drivers? We don't need no stinkin' drivers."

Now, one thing I am thinking about doing, is going to 9 feet of cargo. Lower my height to 55", lower my weight down 500 to 800 lbs. I think that is a fair .80 pm rate for a Sprinter.
That way I will not have to worry about sleeping in the seat with 3 skids behind me.

It's a shame to me, that Express-1 is no longer a leader in this field.

I posted these same thoughts on the E-1 only forum. We go back into service tomorrow and I can't wait for the first load over 2000lbs offered. A polite turn down will be in order even if its 1500 miles. With the decrease in fuel mileage and the increased wear and tear on my truck and no compensation for it. Again the main qualification for being a sprinter type vehicle is over 48" doors in the rear. I had a van that could carry close to 4000 lbs. Give a heavy load to a van guy now and if they don't squeal like a pig then they have nothing between the ears.

Like Steady I am actively looking for our life boat.

Regardless of how long you've been with a company, or how much you love it, there should always be a life boat waiting, just in case. In a situation like this (or like ConWay), you want to be the FIRST gone, ahead of the pack of distressed contractors looking for anyone who will take them on.
