Turtle,

what part of the word "Commercial Hauling" don't you understand?

Any time you are hauling for pay it is considered "commercial hauling"

Ask an RV Hauler, their trucks are under 10 000 lbs and they have to have logbooks and D.O.T. #'s

This thread is so full of in-accuracies . I have been in the transportation business for almost 20 years ,so I do know what I am talking about

Lawrence , please lock this thread

So now I'm a fool

The facts are you look at the facts... stated and posted.

2nd
I work for a company that is based out of Michigan so therefore I have to have my DOT and CC numbers on the side of my vehicle.

So do Chef Dennis and EBSprintin because they also work for a company out of Michigan.

If you want to twist the context......be my guest ...but the facts are there....and don't call me a fool when you are the one that hasn't researched the facts.

Which word? Never mind, doesn't matter, I understand them both.

Any time you are hauling for pay it is considered "commercial hauling"
Yeah, so? What does that have to do with the price of tea in China? Because "commercial hauling" is not the definition of Commercial Motor Vehicle.

Ask an RV Hauler, their trucks are under 10 000 lbs and they have to have logbooks and D.O.T. #'s
Not if they're not hauling a trailer.

Unfortunately, all of the inaccuracies are yours. I'm really quite surprised that you don't even know the definition of a Commercial Motor Vehicle, what with 20 years under your belt, especially considering the bazillion times the definition has been posted here on EO and how easy it is to find on the FMCSA Web site.

The Michigan rules apply ONLY to vehicles plated and registered in Michigan, or running for companies operating out of Michigan. You stated, unequivocally, that "Anytime you do not have lettering on your van, you are in clear violation of DOT regulations," which again is not true. It's a Michigan regulation, not a DOT regulation. There are, absolutely, situations when you do not have to have lettering on your van, namely, if you are not registered in Michigan or run for a company that is registered in Michigan, or you do not meet the definition of a CMV. Michigan laws only apply in Michigan, not to everyone "anytime."

In addition, even in Michigan, you aren't required to have a DOT number on your vehicle unless you are a Commercial Motor Vehicle as defined in the federal regulations part 390.21. The only special regulations of Michigan is that all vehicles weighing 5000 or more must have the company name, city and state displayed on the side of the vehicle. That requirement also applies to Joe the Plumber. But Joe the Plumber doesn't have to have a DOT number, nor does any other vehicle that is not a CMV.

I work for a company that is based out of Michigan so therefore I have to have my DOT and CC numbers on the side of my vehicle.
Not. You have to have your company name, city and state and the MI PSC decal and PSC authority# on the side of your vehicle, not the DOT number.

So do Chef Dennis and EBSprintin because they also work for a company out of Michigan.
You can include me in that, as well.

If you want to twist the context......be my guest ...but the facts are there....and don't call me a fool when you are the one that hasn't researched the facts.
You're the one twisting the facts and trying to apply Michigan regulations to anyone and everyone. That's a little foolish if you think about it.

I just called pilot corporate and raised hell about this thread. The CSR conferenced the location mngr into the call and I was assured that expeditors were allowed to park on the lot...

I strongly recommended that pilot posts a rebuttal on this thread...there was some question about unmarked vans but it seems if they can show a bill of lading or sorting like that it would not be a problem....

I hope many of you will take the 5 min to make a similar call....that will show the real power of a forum such as this one....

As to signage being required on vans...MI seems to be the only state that requires it...sooo if you have a MI plate you might have a problem.. I like to be blank myself as I am a semi tourist, expeditor myself and commercial signs restrict me from certain scenic byways...I also spend a great deal of time in friends driveways over week ends and I'm just more comfortable being blank in that scenario....

There is a Walmart at the interchange of 26/20 first exit south Bush Rd...van friendly and store is open 24 hrs....

Actually Guido said last time down there they had towed all the cars and weren't allowing any commuters park....kinda cleaned it up...

The last time they sure did clean the place up, even though I never had a problem there, front or back lot. It was strangely empty, the front lot, with a couple of tow trucks sitting there on occasion. I'd actually get up from my desk, walk to the side door, and look outside the window once in awile hoping to see some kind of action, but, to no avail, nothing.Oh, wait a minute. There was an accident at the intersection. And an occasional cat running across the parking lot...lol...

This could solve the problem. Some hotels do this.If planning on staying, regiter truck/van at fuel desk get a placard with a number on it than security could, walk or drive by and see that the truck is okay and registered at desk. Sometime I have to stay at hotels (day cab) and they do this so they know I am a guest, and tow others that walk across the street to bars or resturants. The extende stay oin Austin texas is 1 that does this..
