Calling all pet owners!

Many members on this forum are trucking pet owners. Some have had on-board pets for years, others like myself have only recently brought a full-time pet on the truck. They bring joy to the truck in many ways.

I have approached the administrator of this site with the concept of adding a forum to EO dedicated to the trucking pet owners (and pet lovers) within the EO community. A place that we whom choose to share ideas, stories, photos, etc regarding our pets could do so without negative criticism from non-pet lovers.

I encourage anyone wishing to see this added to the forums to let Expediter Online know through this thread or privately. It could be a lot of fun and a break from politics, doom and gloom in our nation's economy, and broken down trucks! LOL

As an example:
Our Boston Terrier Abby on the run to Wasington state that we completed today. Photos were shot at the rest area as you enter Utah form the east on I-80 and the rest area at CleElum,WA this morning where it was 49 degrees!

I like it! Of particular interest to me would be reviews of dog parks, because I can find them online, but would like to hear from someone who has been there.
That Boston Terrier is a cutie pie!

No texting, no pets in a commercial vehicle...they could be a distraction for some witless drivers....

Exactly! As we land in different areas looking for a SAFE place to exercise Abby, it would be helpful to fellow EO members if information from others that have used these areas was shared.

Also, on road pet emergencies can be stressful when needing a vet. Any member that has used a vet other than their home vet while on the road and shares that information, it could make a difference of life and death for a fellow EO member's pet if the emergency need arose down the road.

Lets make this happen!

Some people like beautiful pets traveling with them, others like old bull dogs wearing funny looking shorts....talk about a distraction...poor JuJu.

The pet forum would be a great addition to the site, even better if grouchy old non-pet people ^ didn't have access. :D

In the spirit of sharing, I'd like to offer one of my favorite web sites for our fur babies. Pricey on some things but if you're looking for something unusual, this might be for you.....

Thats a very true possibility OTV. We are already preparing for that if and when the time comes. In our case Abby is in bed, either in her bed or... Dad's sooooo bad! As we understand it, the pet will not be permitted to be in the "cab" area of the vehicle while its being driven. Simple solution. We will install a doggie gate in the opening between our two sleepers.

Ours are crated while the truck is moving for their own safety.

no need ,
all it will do is make it harder for the rest of us to tell our pets story's & experience .
like the amassing truck dog i met in Ft. worthless only 2 days ago ...(I' was just about to tell everyone about it ,but ,well ,try to read about it,like, if i am not allowed to post...) .
or even have an open discussion about having a dog in an expedite truck Vs loads opportunity (an issue that do come up all the time).
Or the never ending dilemma and experience (good or bad)of trucks owners ,when it comes to pet policy .
pets are part of our lives ,we love them ,whether we own one or not ,it comes with being an expediter .they are around us most times we stop.
now about that Singles expediters forum ...
O'h Y'a ,I'm heading now to Marysville ,W.A ,MayB Ya'll still be there ,That dog looks really cute !

Moose, I hope you didn't take my comment about "grouchy old non-pet people" as being serious. That was a jab at Ken (as I often do)...if you look right after the word "people", you'll see a tiny little ^^^^^^ pointing upward like a finger pointing right at him.

As with the carrier forums, it could be locked to special requirements to join in posting.

If ever in Shipshewana,IN there is a pet boutique downtown for those special items for Fido! Also while in Shipshewana if an emergency need arises for your pet, as did for Abby, ARI can guide you to an excellent veterinarian in Lagrange.

Recently while at ARI having maintinance done on our sleeper we had a real scare. Abby still being a puppy at heart grabbed and swallowed a mushroom before I could even get to her to get it out of her month. It only took a split second and it was gone, down the hatch! Learning that an ARI employee's pooch recently had a bad experience with mushrooms, we were quickly instructed as to the location of their vet in Lagrange and given a car to rush Abby to the vet's clinic. Fortunately the mushroom she ate was non-poisonous. We were able to pick one next to the one she ate and take it to the vet.

They also have 24 hour emergency service.

I thought it was hilarious when Kenzy was scared of a patch of wicked looking mushrooms [they did look kind of scary, lol], but maybe that was a good thing....:D

You've got to be kidding! Delivered at Boeing earlier today. At Donna's Travel Resort and Spa in Marysville. Wife is at the casino gambling. I'm guarding the rig and the dog so nobody steals em! LOL

Special requirements? You mean like saying that you own a pet and pinkie promise cross your heart and hope to die that you won't post anything negative or make fun of how ugly someone's dog or cat or ferret is because every picture of every pet is just to-die-for precious? What if you own a pet and still have negative criticism about something? Asking for a special forum that doesn't allow negative criticism from non-pet lovers is putting out a sign inviting mockery. Sheesh.

I don't see anything wrong with a pet forum. It's actually a good idea. But to want it to be monitored with a heavy hand and be exclusive to only the right kind of people is pretty immature. Start a pet owner Facebook page or something if you want that kind of control.

As an owner of three dogs and two cats, none of whom are in my truck....I think a pet forum is fine:)
Since I don't live in my truck it would be hard to have them in the truck, too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter etc etc.

If eo sets up an exclusive use forum for pet owners, please put it in a subfolder down and out of the way to keep things from getting too tediously cluttered. Considering a major purpose of this site is to help people new to, or from outside this industry it seems that exclusivity turns this place into some kind of country club.

Why not just start something like the monthly locations thread but in the layover lounge. If exclusive use is a critical part of the idea then it doesn't belong here on eo.

I think a pet forum would be great.
While at the TA in Ontario this month we adopted a 2 year old Chiuaua. Our plan was to make him a truck dog. But after 9 days of having him in the truck and 3 days in a hotel we have decided he would be better off staying at home with our other Chiuaua, Golden Retreiver, Collie and 3 horses.
I'm sure for many having a pet along is great, but for us the experience was closer to a nightmare.

OK Turtle, turning this thread in a new direction:

Since I'm not with FedEx, would the administrator approve permission for me (or anyone not affiliated with FDCC) to post on that thread? What would be its purpose?

If you have a thread for truckers with on-board pets, whats wrong with making that a requirement of participating on that forum? What would be the benefit of allowing "non-pet lovers" and their negative criticism onto a forum designed for trucking pet owners to share positive ideas and stories?

Did I say anywhere in my post that I wanted the forum monitored with a "heavy hand" and so on and so forth?

Turtle, what happened to the days of adults being mature enough to keep their negative thoughts and comments to themselves when appropriate? Don't you think sometimes its better to keep one's month shut or fingertips off of the keyboard and keep their sarcasm and ugliness to themselves? Read what you just posted and then think about the reaction you just got. You sir attacked first. Expect a reaction you may not like in return. You are a CLASSIC EXAMPLE of someone whom would be counter productive to such a forum as your choice of words prove.

You have just made my point to the administration of this forum. Are you reading Lawrence?

If I wanted to see a "pet owners" webpage, all I have to do is go on-line and I will find plenty. I'm speaking of a trucking pet owner's page which I believe would be quite productive and benefitual here without the negativaty posted by you and others like you.

Lawrence I rest my case.
