First off there is nothing to be confused about. I got Business in VA and I just got the call this afternoon.

2ndly Iam not going to get on a plane or ride a bus.

I will get there I have Faith In the Company.

Maybe I should use Super Trucker as that is what Charles Called me all the time. After I went over Snow Quami In Washington State in Dec of 2006. HMM. That was one heck of a storm.
IRT. Sal outa Ohio Called me that when we did those loads during the Ice Storms. So I Kept it.
Heck maybe I should use My Nick they called me in my teen years Ridge Runner. as I worked at Timber Ridge Rec Ranch.

Have a nice day ;-)
Tell ya what. You can delte IRT and Marv and Ill make a new Log in of KW that will work.
Peace.

You got that right! That dispatch office must have lit right up when this thread was started. Let's see if it'll work for me...

O.K. Headquarters... I went postal... the mail will be delivered in West Palm Beach, where's my reward?

I guess I'm not that great at IRTisms.

iceroadtrucker, you have been peppering the forum with information about your absolute need to get to the East Coast before the end of next week. You also know that your carrier does not have a directional dispatch system.

If you need to be there when you say, why don't you just go? What's more important, maintaining faith that the company will get you east or actually getting where you need to be?

Let me say this, when I was needed to do, I did. I been known to do what others refuesed to do.
When Needed I have done and still do.
You Da Burn Skippy I have Faith in Company, If I didnt I would not still be here!! I would have left along time ago.
It's evident, Please read what i wrote Putting it in the wind is not an option. Getting on a bus or a Plane is not an Option either. Like I said I have faith.
Thanks for your comment

For others reading this forum, especially newbies and expediter wannabees, I'll add only this. When it comes to getting home or anywhere else in the country on short notice, Diane and I place zero faith in our carrier to get us there.

In actual practice, zero may be too low of a number as our carrier has a backhaul department that can be of some help sometimes. For E and ER-units (big rigs) more options exist as more backhaul loads are available for them than straight trucks. But as a straight-truck team who wants to be out more than home, we don't give the company a second thought when it comes time to get home. We just go out of service and go home.

Things we do to maintain our ability to get home on short notice (like in an unanticipated emergency) include:

- Keep enough money at all times on our fuel card to get us home from anywhere in the 48 states without reloading the card.

- Keep enough money in an easy-access bank account to rent a car or purchase any plane, train or bus tickets that may be needed to get home and then back to the truck.

- Keep carry-on size, soft-shell suit cases in the truck in case they are needed for emergency travel.

- Have ideas in mind about what to do with the truck if you are far from home, in an unfamiliar area, and need to leave it to head home in a hurry.

Keeping yourself and your truck ready for immediate pickups works also for getting home on short notice. As the Boy and Girl Scouts say, be prepared.

Be prepared because if an urgent need to get home arises, the reason is probably pretty important. It may be consuming and not conducive to good thinking. You don't want to add stress and complicate things by having to deal with two problems at once (a) the issue at home, and (b) figuring out how to get quickly home if you lack the means to do so. When a true crisis exists, one crisis at a time is plenty.

A cash reserve Phil? The scuttlebutt out in the parking lots even though business has picked up somewhat there is even more now running from load to load...they have to get a load to charge their com data card just to fuel up. These low rates you just can not go on forever..almost a year now of this..
Couple this and CSA.. credit still being tight and I predict a shortage of straight trucks early next year....Cargo vans get ready to run some miles...
