Even if more freight is shipped by rail , more than likely it is going to wind up on a truck to reach it's destination. Thus increasing congestion in the metro areas .

jimmy

Nope, LaHood is going to OUTLAW trucks and cars in his "sustainable communities". Unemployment will be resolved then. All freight will be moved by pedal cars.

I seen a logistic warehouse in Indiana..being built....modular rail cars are unloaded right inside...they built a new spur, CSX to do this....from cargo ship to warehouse NO truck....up to that point.

Modular ? Does that mean more than one shipment on one car, similar to LTL freight ? Still I would think that trucks or pedal cars would be needed at some point.

One product, one container..right off the boat, right to warehouse...truck would only be used to do the local distribution....

Yeah, I was at the truck show yesterday in Memphis, and one vendor was IMCG (Intermodal Cartage Company), The lady said it can only go so far by rail. Then she went on to say, "Hey, you wanta be home every night?".... There was only one Expedite company there.....Express-1.

Do you think the way Lahood is going...his underlying goal is to make every truck a team operation?....

His underlying goal has a couple horns:

1. make room for Mexican trucks,

2. Repay "safety" lobbyists like Public Citizen who give big bucks to their campaigns.

Outside of that, I doubt he has a clue of the implications, nor cares.

Does anyone believe Politicians do anything for US..To make our lives better, No, unless there Masters who donate the big money under cover of PAC etc....No Politicians need to stay out of this Business and most business, We keep lathering and laying on stuff soon Mexican truckers and then a withering economy.....the perfect storm of regulation and poor understanding of transportation providers.

Mexican trucks have zero to do with this issue.

This is an issue that has to do with the ATA and other organizations that go back to the original rewrite of the HOS, not making room for Mexican truckers. For what reason I can't get too many people fall into the trap that the demise is the Mexican trucker when it is their own attitude and lack of unity.

Politicians need to stay out of this Business and most business
Actually it should be the opposite, it is because they are giving the regulatory body the rights to write the regulations without oversight which started these messes. The regulations need to be returned to congressional control and get the regulators out of the business of writing the regulations.

the perfect storm of regulation and poor understanding of transportation providers.
Sorry but no one needs to understand the transportation providers, they do need regulating because of the level of greed and the stupidity of the public who runs to it to be part of that greed.

Morons. If they want to make things safer the only change they will make is to remove the stupid 8 hour rule on split logging and put it at 5 hours where it should have been all along. That makes teams legal to do a 5/5 system which for many teams is the only safe system they can operate but now they are forced to run 10/10 by an 8 hour rule some moron put in place.

Can you prove that the split hours are safer?

"LaHood said the final rule would give some carriers “new operational flexibility,” and any “disruption to the regulatory process would sacrifice those benefits.”

Now we know what LaHood meant. "Some carriers" has nothing to do with trucking... it's railroad carriers. They are the ones with operational flexibility.

"Disruption to the regulatory process" means that if LaHood doesn't get his way, he's gonna cry. :(

We should pitch in and get LaHood a binkey... preferably one with Chinese lead paint on it.

Sleep needs and their relationship to safety are individual. Some may do better on the 10 hour rule, others on a 5 and 5. NO law/regulation takes that into account. The 5 and 5 was, without a doubt, safer for OUR operation. No own can "prove" this, there are just far too many variables. As many variables as there are drivers.

I can't prove there is oxygen in the air. I can't prove the 5/5 rule. I can't prove many other things. I am not equipped or trained to do so. I still know them and I am correct. You will find many teams who will tell you they are much more alert and safe on a 5/5 than on a 10/10. When I ran team that was the case.

Well another friendly deal from the Obama croneys. I wonder how much more friendly he can be towards business. Trucking companys cannot fill seats now and if that goes through, more seats will be emptied. Isn't he doing a wonderful and fullfilling job for American? Oh my did I say that??:mad:

I think anyone can beat Numb nuts out of the white house. It just takes money. I think I can even beat him. Sure. Everyone send me a dollar and I'll run.:D

OK I guess if you want to look at it in a myopic version of reality but no matter if you can figure out a way to write a regulation that allows those who want to chase the pennies safely while not allowing others who can't control their behavior by getting sleep, then there is a job for you in Washington and you be a millionaire in a matter of months.

IT doesn't have a thing to do with this niche market or YOUR operation which is patterned after the needs of your carrier but with the fact that it HAS TO apply to everyone by the lowest common denominator.

If you can't prove Air has O2 in it, then you shouldn't be driving.

Again repeating this, IT doesn't have a thing to do with this niche market or YOUR operation which is patterned after the needs of your carrier but with the fact that it HAS TO apply to everyone by the lowest common denominator.

Well guess what?

THIS wasn't started under Obama but under Bush and it was his administration who was caught with their hands in the cookie jar. AND because of that the court told them to rewrite it properly which of course they can't.

Trucking companies don't seem to have a problem filling their trucks with people who can drive but they have a problem with maintaining the level of competence with those drivers after they are pushed through training. Maybe we need to actually think of it this way - the training here sucks and the license is too easy to get.

It has EVERYTHING to do with my business. These regulations being proposed seem to have NO basis in science OR common sense. Well written, well researched regulation benefit everyone. Poorly written, politically based regulations harm everyone.

Oh but of course this is Obama's fault. It does NO matter that it started under Bush. The DOT is under the Executive Branch. Obama is in (or should be) control of all departments in that branch. Therefore, all stupidity going on now is HIS fault.
