Board Position BS

Well here we sit in Dallas since Saturday. Checked board position with dispatch Saturday and told we were 2nd out and that Dallas has an average of 6 loads a day. We decided that we had a pretty good chance of a load out either Sunday or Monday..now it's going on Wednesday and we are now 5th out and dispatch said 6 loads left yesterday out of Dallas. Turns out that 4 loads arrived yesterday with first out status.

When a load is hard to cover, the carrier offers the "first out" carrot. Carrier covers it loads and penalizes those already on board list, even those with first out status. What a deal.

Even if I had been offered a first out when I arrived Dallas, I would still be way down the line.

Maybe someone who understands these boards better can explain what is going on.

But on the bright side...with all the weather up north, maybe we are better off?

Just Venting.........

If 4 first outs arrived, and you were 2nd out, you would have recieved a load offer if 6 loads went out Monday regardless. How are you still #5????
I would check that out. I think I am missing something?

Yea, sometimes the board position thing is aggravating...I've learned not to sweat it...Also, another word of wisdom that works for us...MAKE PLANS TO DO SOMETHING. then as soon as you get everything set up, ie...Taxi ride, tickets, reservations...then you'll get a load! Works for us every time!!!

I'm sitting down here in San Antonio and very glad my 1200 miles load canceled due to that weather up there.

I've been sitting in Dallas with a 1st out showing in the system since Monday morning. Can't find anything on the 3 internet boards I have access to and nothing from the company. Good thing I am not hyper.

Yup, i heard there is a slowdown in expdt so i took up doing some hobbies including research. I'm learning about alternative energy for homes, learning about which ATV to buy, studing for Hazmats, and my other favorite past time. Sleeping.:+

I really do not know how the boards work, but it sounds like you are being passed over for some reason. Have you rocked the boat recently?

yea Fastrod.....we were told this morning that we are 1st out, but talked to another driver here in Dallas and he said he thought he was 1st out.
He just got two load offers in a row and took one of them...we should have been offered the other if in fact we were 1st out, but did not.
Still sitting here in the twilight zone.

I recently spoke with another driver in Jacksonville, and we were both told we were first out, too - so I guess if dispatch at Panther says you're first out, the next question needs to be: how many others are, too?

So when I started this "paid tourist" thing and worked for another company, I was in Georgetown KY with two other drivers. Two of us were parked next to each other, I dropped first and he dropped an hour later and the third drvier came in three hours later who parkd next to us. Before the third driver arrived, we were both told we were number one and heard it from our speaker phones (nice thing technology, isn't it?).

We know that they got loads out of there because the third driver got a load even though he dropped after we did. Later on another van came in and got dispatched out and again we were told that we were both number one. About a month after that the other driver left for a better company (his words) and I held on until the dispatcher told me that he didn't have time for me - then I left.

If I didn't leave, I would most likely still number one.

You folks gotta understand that, the driver that dropped third, for example, and was dispatched first, was probably behind you other two in revenue for the past couple weeks. If you've done well recently you will certainly be dispatched later than someone whom is short of revenue recently, specially if you all are in a pile somewhere. DON'T GET IN THE PILE. I'ts called revenue management, to keep everyone happy. I certainly don't subscribe to this practice, I say give the good horse the freight, and call it good enough.

Gotta agree with you there, Col. A poker dealer doesn't say "this guy is having bad luck, so I'll give him the good hand for once." I don't need dispatch to be my luck, good or bad. Just find me the loads, plz.

im not crazy about our system, but how do you get more than 1 1st out comming in express center.
even with us,if 3 guys get in express center, with 1st out status,it goes by the time each one arrives,if they all check in at exact same time, then good luck,I dont know how they figure, maybe longest dh

where do you work, that your loads are determined by your passed revenue, might be good time to go look for another company

A lot of companies will give the load to someone who's not doing so hot, rather than 1st out. To me it's communism - alive and well in expediting.

When I was with Panther, it was suggested that if I had to negotiate, ask for a first out on the "first out board". If they keep giving first outs, it's obvious they have to do something with everyone after the first. Placate the drivers till they get the load done, then let them find out what's going on.

I'd rather play bingo.

It is very important to be very specific when talking to dispatch. For example, "This is Jane Doe. How many cargo vans are available within 50 geographical miles of my location?" Or, "This is John Doe. How many cargo vans are available on the Dallas board? Does that nbr include teams? And how many first outs are there? Am I the first first out or the third first out?"

Sorry but in real business that handle more than 200 trucks, the idea of this type of revenue reasoning is rather small minded. I can see where it would work with a small amount of trucks but not a medium company who claims to be growing.

I like where I am at, as mentioned I am not crazy over the system, but I know being a number is h*ll of a lot better than dealing with bobby sue in the office having her favorites and not getting offers because elmer fud isn't happy with the poor week he has had - that is not my problem and preventing me from making money because of his problem is not ethical.

Blueengine, the problem I had was asking those exact questions and being told "I don't have time for that I am too busy", not once but several times. When you have this your a name here mentality, than the driver should expect and the dispatcher should give the time to get these questions answered. WHen you get to be a number, it seems easier to get the info needed. In my case the dispatcher was not the only one there but he was the only one who was getting my calls for some reason.

I don't know what is so hard for you nay sayers that are leased to big Companys to understand about this but.....Say a small Company like mine (less than 20 trucks), how many trucks would you think we would have in a same area at the same time?? Now, are you getting the picture of whom might be on the recieving end of this "comunistic" type of welfare? Nobody said life was fair, and, we all support the leakers, one way or another. I'll bet your revenue for the last while is right there on the dispatchers screen. Greg

Your logic stream is a bit muddled for my small :+ mind, Greg! In my experience, dispatchers sometimes mix board positions of drivers who share the same last name and who just happen to be on the same board. It shouldn't happen. But it does. So when I call in, I prefer to say, "Hi, Greg, this is Jane Doe...."
