Prove to me that anyone was forced to go buy one of those two dohickys. Besides, most of the things people fight over are luxuries. TV's and video games are not needed for life. They are toys, not food.

It is a choice. Nothing more. People are just stupid and fall for the hype.

I agree. But that's not what I was refuting.

Two years ago I was looking for a Playstation 3 as a gift for my nephew This was around april.Called a bunch of different stores they all told me the same thing sony was not releasing any for at least 6 months.Had a manager at game stop tell me sony only releases so many at a time.Nothing the stores could do about it.So instead of his birthday he got it for christmas.Myself I think it helps to create a want when they limit the number of items they release to the stores. Is there anything wrong with this?I dont think so.

Many stores have taken to hiring off duty police to help controll the crowds.Yet the people who must have that 7 dollar toaster oven dont seem to care.It used to be people would get up early and go stand in line and get what they wanted. That has all changed with the killing of Personal Responsibility and the me me me nation we are becoming.

As far as people saying that the shoppers are buying things they dont need well that is a bunch of crap.I mean really who is anybody to say someone else does not need something. To me that is no different then the people who say others have more money then they need.Think about it as the Conversation turns more and more to the people have more then they need and something needs to be done to stop it.People start to get worried that if they dont get it now, maybe some one will decide that they can not buy it because they have to much already. Not trying to use it as an excuse for the shoppers bad behavior just saying when other people start talking about setting limits on what a person can earn or when people have more then they need.It makes people act funny.

People need food, basic clothing, housing etc. No one needs a TV, a playstation etc. Those are wants pure luxuries. To fight, kill, pepper spray etc over luxuries, toys etc just proves how stupid some people can be. Also, is shows just how shallow they are.

Right. I went in with the thought if I didnt get it I would just pay full price at christmas time. I am not going to fight over it.

As stated though Missouri was well organized and had plenty of police and security. I didn't see one fight or anyone disorderly.

That is how a normal person would think. It appears that there are a lot of abnormal people out there or these incidents would not happen.

When a retailer puts in their ad "limit 2 per store" it's a bit disingenuous to claim they are not partly culpable.

If a store puts in their ad they have a 40in tv for 199 bucks and they tell you in the ad that there are only two per store. You show up there is a line of 200 people chances are you know you are not getting that tv.Yet if when the doors open you take off like a wide reciver running for the end zone trying to score the winning touchdown. Then it is all your fault and not the store. You knew there were only two tvs.You knew there were 200 people in front of you yet you still took off like it was a matter of life or death.

To try and use "two per store" to justify people acting the fool is just wrong. Its all about taking personal responsibility for your own actions.

Where did I say the actions were justified? I simply questioned layout claiming that the stores are innocent with the reason being the can't control the inventory. If that were indeed the case why not put high prices on such rare items?

I did not say that they can't control inventory, I said it is not as simple as it seems.

Many times when I was in retail there were problems that were impossible to plan for. Like strikes at a port. A fire at a plant. Once a container got washed off the deck of the boat it was on.

It is also not good business to carry a large inventory. There are taxes on that inventory.

Store put out adds to attempt to draw people in. People choose to fall for it.

Adds are printed up weeks or months in advance of a sale. The stock for those sales shows up about a week prior. All it takes is one problem and things start to unravel.

Without defending the idiots who cannot behave in a civil fashion, why do retailers continue to set the stage for mad stampedes by having far less of the merchandise than anticipated demand, thereby guaranteeing a mob of people pushing & shoving [and trampling!] to get in front?
Materialism is deplorable, as is the behavior of many of the shoppers, but the biggest part of the blame goes to the retailers who make it happen. It's their actions that cause the feeding frenzy, why don't they make it stop?

Sorry cheri, I have to disagree with you on this one. If the buying public would stop acting like rabid dogs, then the retailers would not hold these stupid sales.

the people that do the crazy stupid stuff are just hard workers. they are getting a $400 tv for $200 .

yes it is stupid the way they act on black friday . but they are no differant than anybody else . each one of you look for deals on the things you buy also . and say you work hard for what you got . so why are you any better then they are on black friday

dont you think it is time you stop and think what your standards are .

i think some of you need to get the ADs from this last black friday not from 5 years ago . all the ads that i saw none had only limited 2 to a store . but some did have 2 limit pre person

and as far as the stuff they fight over . they dont need it . you dont need the things you like to do then . if you believe they dont need a tv , then you dont need your books .

I don't act at all like those people who fight, pepper spray or what ever they do. No one can compare nuts to normal people. There is a big difference between wants and needs. Normal people know that difference. I also don't by books so I have no idea what you are talking about.

So true. Go in with hopes of getting a really good deal but if you don't get that product then big deal. You guys have any idea how much of that stuff I needed such as the kitchen appliances I didn't get? Why didn't I get it? I didn't want to lower my standards and fight for it.

The pathetic thing about this whole sorry mess is you can wait about a week or even just a few days and go get this same crap for 75% off! We all know that Jesus wasn't born on Dec 25th anyway. I for one am SICK of the whole mess.Everybody running around like mad fools trying to by someone something they probably don't want anyway! Or they'll give it to someone else NEXT Christmas. How did it get to this mess? If Jesus is looking at this mess we call Christmas, I'm sure He's shaking his head thinking, "Fools!" It's NOT supposed to be this way. Just my humble opinion.

Yes assuming it doesn't sell out. Wonder how many people you will **** off with your anti Christmas rant.

:eek:My intention, I assure you, was NOT to p*** off anyone. As I said, it was just my humble opinion. I was just "venting" to my friends (if I have any left after this post) on EO!
But Hey, you got a right! GO FOR IT! I'm just saying that to ME it is stupid to run around like mad fools, because...and there is no avoiding the truth...most, not all, people buy other people gifts, not because of any sense of giving, but because they don't want to be known as a scrooge or cheapskate and it is not an anti-Christmas RANT!
I'm sorry if you can't handle "the truth!"

When did buying things you can't afford for people you don't like with money you don't have become "The Christmas Spirit", and when did the refusal to behave this way start making us "Scrooges"??? Somebody mentions that Jesus wasn't born on December 25 anyway, but it doesn't matter because our society seems determined to throw Him out and replace Him with an image that is a bad imitation of a corrupt retail circus.

THAT'S what I'm trying to say!!!! Well said mjmsprt40. Well said! I just saw on TV a few minutes ago where people are kicking the s*** out of each other to get in the stores, and in a few cases, people have been shot! Yes, SHOT! What the heck is the MATTER with these fools? I, for one, and yes, it's just ME, wouldn't go through that if they gave me that stuff> I swear unto everything that's holy I wouldn't! I might could see it if it were just a few people, but my God, this is rampant all over the World! It gets worse every year.

On my way home this morning I was listening to some piece about people who had no money to buy their kids some gifts for Christmas and I thought when was it really a need to buy anyone any gift on Christmas - they miss the entire meaning of the holiday.

Just because kids do not get a gift, it does not mean they are deprived but they have made it a standard to measure how poor people are by the lack of gifts. It seems that we put too much emphasis on the need to buy gifts but not teach the meaning of the holiday or any holiday for that matter. Pretty pathetic society we have.
