You guys are right, Laredo is nice right now. It's sunny, 65*, and not a cloud in the sky. Been down here in southern Texas since sunday night, dropped on monday and just been enjoying the weather ever since. But this nice weather isn't gonna last long for us, we're waiting to pick up a load right now, and then headed north to cold weather.

-2 right now and its not even cold yet.

i was in calif one time and someone asked if it got cold here. (must be a left coast lifer). i said not really. there are a few cold days and all the rest were above zero. was the response.

Hey, i'm from California and i'm not a lefty. I don't like :censoredsign: marriage and unchecked illegal immigration. I can also weather the cold Northeast winters if I have to. Now, that being said, i'm sitting here in Orange County enjoying another warm and sunny day.

Tristate gets B-unit loads out of Laredo? I've never seen a Tristate van in Laredo before.

blizzard, i am not implying people in cali are lefties. just left coasters. i guess if i lived in cali i might not leave often with the good weather. my wife is from santa rosa/sonoma cty. jealous of her stories of winter bicycle riding.

17 layers Cheri? You must be using the wrong type of layering if you need that many. You should not need more than 3-5 layers to stay warm in temps down to -30F. I don't use 17 when ice fishing, without a shanty, in sub-zero temps and high winds. The secret to staying warm in extreme cold is not numbers of layers it is proper layers in the correct order. There is one word to remember, the one thing you should NEVER wear ANY of in the winter. COTTON!!! NO COTTON!!! Cotton is a warm weather material, it came from Egypt. It is a good summer matieral, it's properties cool the body, not what you want in the winter. The military learned this the hard way in Korea. Cotton was one of the main causes of all the cold injuries that the military sufferred. They did extensive research after that mess and no longer use cotton as layers. It is easy to stay warm with todays high tech fabrics, not cheap, but easy. If you have any questions I will be happy to help you with them but I will not be online again till Sat. We will be under load till then. Layoutshooter

Very low record lows broken: TWC meteorologist Mark Ressler gathered up these very cold record lows that were broken earlier this morning as temps plummeted in the teens to 40 degrees below zero. For you folks residing in southern California and the Southwest in general, aren't you jealous?

What's on tap for Thursday?: The clipper we were following on Wednesday is moving off the southern New England coast this morning. Snow will be lingering over the region through the morning hours but it's the arctic air left in this clipper's wake that will garner most of our attention.

It will remain VERY cold in the Midwest but now the arctic blast is descending south and east setting the table for a very cold night and Friday morning in the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic and Southeast. We'll focus in on the state of Florida. Could the cold impact the citrus crop this weekend?

Your on scene reporter here......We delivered to Devils Lake, ND this morning. HOLY COW! I've never been so cold in my life! Despite winter fuel, and anti-gel additives, I think we were beginning to gel up. Luckily for us the temperature didn't dip any lower.
We've decided (ME) that ND is no longer in our atlas in the wintertime.
We did have a beautiful ride up US 85 in Wyoming and South Dakota. It was snowing and the pace was slow, but it was enjoyable.
Headed south now, but not south enough, just to Minneapolis.

Layout: I was exaggerating a bit for the humor that's in it - I usually don't pile on more than 8-10 layers, really. ;) This past week was an exception, because both Chicago and Iowa were COLD!!! But I appreciate the info on cotton - something I hadn't known, and of course most of my clothes are cotton. (What the heck else would jeans & flannel shirts be made of?) I bet others would appreciate it if you posted some general tips on proper layering in cold weather, when you have time. :)

Well no wonder I'm always so freaking cold!!! So what are we supposed to wear??? That would be great if you could do an education posting on the layering and fabrics for staying warm. And congrats on getting that nice new shiny box loaded up and making money!

Glad I burn good ol' gasoline. All I have to hope is there is no water in the fuel.

Yeah lets ban the van. ;)

Did you get your free coffee refill at the GasTrack truck stop? Let me take a wild guess, you delivered to Motor Coach Industries. Yeah I know I went out on a limb guessing MCI out of the thousands of businesses in Pembina, but I'm a risk taker.

I had massive amounts of anti gel in, but still gelled up. I'm at my dad's house, so the van just sat in the driveway all night and with it hitting -35 last night, it was dead this morning. The battery was drained and there was a fair amount of gelling as well. Luckily there was a dealer only 30 minutes away, so I got it towed in there and set to rights in short order.

Back to the west side of mich. BUT!! It is warmer here then at home. I left -10 and it is just -2 here!!!

loaded out of american axle plant 3 in detroit, dropped at american axle in three rivers mich,

from what the employees at AA plant 3 in detroit said, the company is closing plant 3, moving its lines to three rivers. A bunch of employees at plant 2 in detroit took the buyout and today was their last day. about 100-150 people from plant 2 are getting pink slips, the rest are moving to plant 2 and plant 6. Any new employees that WILL be hired will come in at $10 and hr. The people there now after a cut in wages at after the strike make between $18-20 depending on time with the company.

All of this is happening because after the strike they took a $10-12 cut on hourly wage. The company wants them to take a cut now so that they are all making $10 an hr, like the employees at the 3 rivers plant. They said no, so they are only getting 5-6 hrs a day and no 8 hrs pay, just the hrs worked...

I hauled tooling for a axle line out of there. The line will be up in 3 rivers in feb. Needless to say, no one in detroit was a happy camper, it took me 2 hrs and 40 mins to get loaded and the freight was sitting on the dock.......they just took their time....

This is NOT gospel, it came from 4 guys in the plant..
