I had massive amounts of anti gel in, but still gelled up. I'm at my dad's house, so the van just sat in the driveway all night and with it hitting -35 last night, it was dead this morning. The battery was drained and there was a fair amount of gelling as well. Luckily there was a dealer only 30 minutes away, so I got it towed in there and set to rights in short order.

A sprinter gelling? unheard of...you running that thing on H2O?

Yea i know its happening all over, but since this dealt with a "specific" plant, i'd post it. And it might be the only reason I did post it was because of "brain freeze!!" :D

Now that is great news. Had not heard that. Wish more companies would do the same. Glad that E-1 is tight with Whirlpool.

We have been running hard all week so I was unable to look at this forum until today. Staying warm in the winter is all about two things, moisture and wind control. The human body cools mainly by evaporation. That is why cotton is so bad. Cotton absorbs and holds moisture and creates a constant state of evaporation. You always sweat, regardless of the temp. You lose about a pint of water just sleeping at night. Mulitipul thin layers made of materials that "Wick" moisture away from your skin is the secret. Your top layer should be a windproof, breathable membrane, like Gor-Tex. This allows much of the moisture to escape and is wind and water proof.

Against your skin: A thin "base layer" made of silk or any of the man-made materials that wick moisture. The can be purchased at better sporting goods stores like Gander Mountain, Bass Pro, Cabela's etc.

Second - through whatever # of layers: increasingly heavier layers, again, mainly man-made materials. Your shirt should be a fleece. It should have at least three buttons on the front to allow you to open or close them as needed for temp control. I prefere shirts that button all the way down the front. Match the # of layers to your activity level. Your goal is to not start sweating heavier than needed to maitain your normal body temp. It will take some experimentation to learn what is too much or not enough for each situation.

Your top layer should be a Gore-Tex shell. Columbia uses a process called Omni-Tech. There are other out there. Remeber if it is WAY cheaper than Gore-Tex or Omni-Tech it is likely junk. Your clothing should be properly washed. Most of the underware is washed without fabric softener. The Shell should never be washed with "normal" laundry detergent. You should use products like "Sport Wash" or any of the hi-tech cleaners sold at the same shops. The membranes get dirty and will stop moving moisture out if they plug too much. It is possible to get them dirty enough to allow water to "leach" across from the outside and you will think it is leaking. Dirt is abraisive. Allowing the shell to stay dirty will greatly shorten the life span of the garment. The Shells should be dryed in a dryer on med heat. It is good for the tape that seals the seam. Watch when drying the underware and fleeces. They dry fast and can melt if you use too high a heat.

Your feet are the same. A thin base layer and only ONE other pair of socks. I use all wicking socks and a pair of Gore-Tex boots. Insulation levels of the boots depend on activity levels.

I hope this helps some. It is hard in this forum to explain. You can't see me waving my hands and arms around while I expain. I am half Italian and talk with my hands. LOL. If anyone has any specific questions on a particular brand or whatever feel free to send a private msg. Layoutshooter

I like Under Armor too. Check out the Bass Pro stuff, they make a relaxed fit series of layering pieces. I really like them. Layoutshooter

Hummmm.....now if they were to invent warm clothes that could be turned into cold clothes without removing or adding layers, those of us with those NASTY "power surges" would be in heaven! :D

Oh yeah....and so would our hubby's when we roll the dang windows down in subzero temps.

Very low record lows broken: TWC meteorologist Mark Ressler gathered up these very cold record lows that were broken earlier this morning as temps plummeted in the teens to 40 degrees below zero. For you folks residing in southern California and the Southwest in general, aren't you jealous?

City: New Record Low [Old Record]

Aberdeen, SD: -42 [-35 in 1972]
Sioux City, IA: -20 [-18 in 1972]
Cedar Rapids, IA: -26 [-23 in 1994]
Bismarck, ND: -44 [-36 in 1971]
Dubuque, IA: -25 [-25 way back in 1888]
Burlington, IA: -18 [-18 in 1994]
Spencer, IA: -27 [-27 in 1972]
Mobridge, SD: -33 [-30 in 1972]
Sisseton, SD: -31 [-29 in 1972]

Proof positive that Al Gore's battle against global warming has been successful. Now that temperatures have cooled we can use more energy to stay warm, creating more greenhouse gases causing an increase in the earth's temperature leading to another global warming crisis.

Thanks Al, Leonardo and Flea!

And I thought he was just a drummer - or is it bass player? I'd thank him for the music, but climatologist? You're way over my head here (no 'short people jokes!) so please elaborate on 'Climatology for dummies", ok?
