I thought it was pretty insightful. Think about the cost of two extra vans a day sitting. What is the monthly cost? Makes no sense for me to not try and maintain a balance for all. Some see the bigger picture.

What I have always said..how many places do we actually get stacked up at? Not too many.as long as I can make a living and pay the bills, I don't care how many we put on. There is strength in numbers.

It would suck for the sales force here to go out selling and we do not have the proper amount of vehicles to cover their freight..

It is hard for most to understand the way acquiring some freight goes. Loadboards as well. Without a certain number of units they dont let you in or only give you limited access. It is quite frustrating on its own let alone when compiled with other hurdles such as low freight volumes or low rates.

Good evening, all.... first time thread reader, long time poster.

Wait...

I just want to say thank you for the warm reception. I realize that the other Sprinter drivers/Owners seeing that another Sprinter is being added to the fleet may come across as a bit 'disheartening'. I have been expediting on and off since 1997 (Started in a van that started the American Division for Thompson Emergency Freight), and I have seen the best and worst that this industry has to offer. As a rule, we are coming up on the 'busy' time for vans/Sprinters, and expediting in general. Every expediter always says 'We don't need any more vans/sprinters; but like John said, with break downs, turnovers, lack of enthusiasm :) , every company has to maintain the fleet size to ensure the customers are serviced. Because if we can't cover freight, someone else gladly will. I'm not a threat to anyone here...I just want to make money, the same as you. One of my biggest things is, I rarely turn anything down. Every load is a chance to make money...even 4 minis in a day adds up. I run my business according to how I want to live: with variety and diligence; always remember - the little load could piggyback to a bigger load.

Again, thank you so very much for the warm welcome; we all appreciate the kind sentiment.

Load One, here we come!!!

On the serious side welcome to the family to Luke, Melanie and Kurt, enjoy. Don't forget the new people always buy steak dinners for everyone in the yard. Just an old tradition we have to help break the ice. :)
We would love to buy everyone a steak BUT considering it is the slow time about the best we could do is hot dogs on the grill :)

Thanks!!

Welcome to Load One Luke, Melanie and Kurt!

I wouldn't expect a whole lot out of the Sprinter for a while. It's definitely feast or famine right now, but we should be seeing that turn soon.....hopefully. Once the market picks up a bit, you'll see some decent miles and great rates.

I can understand John's position. It has to be a tough balance to hold.....keeping enough capacity to be able to service existing customers plus new customers that Load One is pursuing vs having too many vans in the fleet when the market is down like it is now. With the layover and empty move pay that Load One pays, I'm pretty sure that John crunches the numbers pretty hard trying to maintain that balance. Those costs alone are likely enough to keep him honest :D

I can only guess, but I would think that a lot of the customers we would like to serve have capacity requirements that they are not bashful about. Part of growing a business is building capacity first, then filling it. There can be tough times in that process for everyone. Over time, everyone benefits.

Thanks for the welcome. Yea we are expecting freight to be slow. as long as we run good enough to stay afloat in the Straight truck were good to go :)
