Yes. Both units are. We have reduced sprinter fleet thru some attrition and we have lost a few to accidents and mechanical. I need to make sure we maintain a certain fleet level. The slow period will pass as it always does. We have to balance making sure that we can service the customer as well. As we go after more and more national accounts this remains very important. Often times it is simply right place/right time. As frustrating as it is we still have to broker a certain amount of van/sprinter loads everyday. Overall the sprinter fleet has reduced over the first quarter. Although I am not sure a few units up or down has any real impact when you spread them out across the system.

You didn't see me impact my head against the wall when I read we have new members :D

On the serious side welcome to the family to Luke, Melanie and Kurt, enjoy. Don't forget the new people always buy steak dinners for everyone in the yard. Just an old tradition we have to help break the ice. :)

I think if you had my job trying to maintain balance and make EVERYONE happy and run a business, you would have run out of walls. :) Thank goodness I have a thick skull.

Across the lot, in the parking space in front of my van, sits a ford ranger. Inside is a Flying-J waitress busying herself with preparation for work. She is chewing on a twisty licorice stick and applying lipstick at the same time...oh my.
She notices me watching from my van and goes back to the application of lipstick. Then she exits the vehicle, and like in a beach movie, she tussels her long brown hair back in the morning breeze. The sun strikes her locks with a radiance of light as though glittering off the surface of water.
Closing her door, she turns and flashes a smile at me....
Omg, a 6 in crack appears in my windshield and my left eye goes blind!!!!
Ahhh, Wytheville...the birthplace of snaggletooth.

I ran my numbers for the first quarter. It certainly looks better on paper than it felt.

As for managing the fleet, I considered Load One because there was a waiting list.

Welcome to Load One Luke, Melanie and Kurt!

I wouldn't expect a whole lot out of the Sprinter for a while. It's definitely feast or famine right now, but we should be seeing that turn soon.....hopefully. Once the market picks up a bit, you'll see some decent miles and great rates.

I can understand John's position. It has to be a tough balance to hold.....keeping enough capacity to be able to service existing customers plus new customers that Load One is pursuing vs having too many vans in the fleet when the market is down like it is now. With the layover and empty move pay that Load One pays, I'm pretty sure that John crunches the numbers pretty hard trying to maintain that balance. Those costs alone are likely enough to keep him honest :D

I can only guess, but I would think that a lot of the customers we would like to serve have capacity requirements that they are not bashful about. Part of growing a business is building capacity first, then filling it. There can be tough times in that process for everyone. Over time, everyone benefits.

I am home...in the hills Arkansas....it's a beautiful 65 degree day... What more could I ask of a vacation? :D

Oooops....almost forgot....on my way to get my taxes done. I sold my completely depreciated straight truck during 2012. By my preliminary calculations....I need prayers....lol.
