AnyTime Fitness Thread

Yes! Yes! Yes!

Six months of gym use and a better (but not great) focus on health is showing positive results!

I just opened a letter from my doctor. The lab work from my annual physical is in. About the blood test for cholesterol, the doctor says, "The lipid panel is very good and does not require further intervention from a medical standpoint. Plan to recheck in five years. The elevated triglycerides can be reduced by losing another 5 to 10 pounds. Keep up the good work."

This is a much better report than the last one in which my doctor expressed real concern. Encouraged by this and other progress, I am growing increasingly open to making use of the Anytime Health web site, which is included with an Anytime Fitness membership.

I have resisted health and nutrition topics for years because I wanted to retain the freedom to eat a large bag of potato chips or grab a fast-food snack on impulse. But the more health and fitness improvement I see, the less such binge snacks appeal and the more interesting health information becomes.

Drivers, this is real progress, objectively verified. It did not happen overnight. It began months ago with the decision to join a gym that Diane and I could use regularly while on the road.

Several gym brands are mentioned in this thread. If you wish to improve your health, it does not matter which one you choose. It matters only that you choose one, or that you develop a private workout routine that you can stick to, or that you start in a different way like tracking your calories on a web site that will help you do that.

It feels good to feel good! If you do not have a health and fitness routine, go for it, drivers, make the decision to start; so you can feel it too.

If I think more about feeling good, will I feel good about thinking more, or will it result in thinking good about feeling more ... or perhaps feeling more good than thinking?

Couldn't resist.

You get more of what you think about, so think about what you think about.

Examples:

When I think about eating well, I resist more often the temptation to grab a fast-food meal. When the temptation rises to munch on a snack, thinking about eating well prompts me to drink a glass of juice or drink some tea instead, or to munch on carrots or an apple instead of potato chips.

When I think about growing my net worth or eliminating debt, the impulse to spend money is weakened and the desire to save it and make more grows. When I think about making more money, my mind opens to new opportunities and behavior-change possibilities that I might not have considered before.

Much of what we do is done without thinking. We are creatures of habit, operating under routines that were established long ago. By thinking about what we are thinking about (or discovering that we are not thinking much at all about what we are doing day to day), we become more likely to get our desired results and less likely to get undesired results.

Thinking about what you think about takes you on a journey into the land of subtle nuances. It takes effort and it requires the courage to move beyond your psychological comfort zone. In other words, it requires the courage to face yourself.

A lot of folks are making resolutions this time of year to lose weight. One might reasonably conclude that if someone is thinking about losing weight, he or she is thinking about losing weight. But is that really the case?

What lies behind that stated desire to lose weight? Is it a feeling that you should because the doctor said so? Is it because you have a class reunion coming up this year that you want to look good for? It is because you fear an early death? Is it because two of your friends have lost 20 pounds and you are jealous? Is it because you are just sick and tired of laboring to climb into your truck when you were able to easily do it years ago?

Think about what you are thinking about. Get in touch with the "why" behind your desired result. Then get in touch with the "why" behind that.

This is not an endless onion to peel. There are usually only a few "why's" to think through. That gets you to your real "why," and unleashes the motivation for real change.

The power to create positive changes in your life lies within you. You unleash it by working through your "why's." And you begin that process by thinking about what you are thinking about.

Bragg Live Foods, Bragg Apple Cider Vinegar, Bragg Liquid Aminos,Systemic Enzymes, Bragg Live Organic Food Products, Patricia Bragg, Paul Bragg, Bragg Organic Olive Oil, Bragg Salad Dressings, Bragg Seasonings, Bragg Health Products This is what I drink daily, not much but only 3 tablespoons in 16 oz bottle . I'm not saying to buy this brand, but it's what I use.

My bp is 109/75 and I do not work out, only walk. It was 120/80 which is still good. You can research apple cider for yourself. My blood work is always good to go . But I'm old now and I gotta keep all my parts working the best I can, yep, I'm a 1946 kid. U do the math.....lol

Barstow, CA - This would not be listed as one of our favorite ATF's but it is at least in the area! The parking is pretty good for a small truck (C or D) and there is a Von grocery store across the street with lots of parking. The equipment is in good condition. It isn't the cleanest ATF we have been in and they did not have hot water for showers - but they do have showers (which were so-so clean). I plan to post a comment on the website but I almost feel I should talk with the owner first. The owner wasn't in the gym when we got there to work out.

Avoid the Wadsworth Ohio Anytime Fitness...easily the worst one ive been too so far. Its a hole in the wall, with hardly any good eqipment, and barely enough parking for a c/v(I had to park across the street). If there is one person doing free weight-its crowded. Idk how the ATF corperation let them open this place?

I do not know this club or the people who own it, but a look at the club web site and its Facebook page tells me that these club owners have it going on.

You are right about the parking. While the size of the club is smaller than many AF locations, Wadsworth is a small town and small towns do not always serve up a wide selection of large retail spaces when retail space is sought. Equipment-wise, they have the same brands as are found in other AF clubs. The number of pieces may be lower because of the smaller square footage but the equipment quality seems the same if the photos are accurate.

I cannot speak for the owners but would guess that they would want to hear any complaints you care to make about club cleanliness. With any AF club, expediters who are AF members can do themselves, other members and Anytime Fitness itself a big favor by commenting to club owners about club cleanliness. Every club has an email address posted on its web site. Many if not all clubs have suggestion/comment boxes on site. Voicing a cleanliness complaint on a public web site like EO would do little good as the club owners are not likely to see it. But getting word to the club owners would make a difference.

Diane and I continue to use clubs around the country as we haul freight. Most are very clean. A few are less than sparkling but acceptably clean. We have seen none that are actually dirty in a way that indicates the club cleaning is neglected.

These clubs are not like truck stops where cleaning staff is on duty 24 hours a day. As with RV parks, showers in truck dealerships and other such locations, you may not be the first one to use the shower after it was cleaned.

Might want to avoid this one also: Anytime Fitness lawsuit now class action - WAFB 9 News Baton Rouge, Louisiana News, Weather, Sports in Baton Rouge, La...and if you are a female that visited this location, you might want to contact the Police Department. We were considering ATF, but with the large number of complaints, and the fact TA is attempting to establish fitness facilities at many of their locations has directed our attention to support TA for now.

While that case has yet to be decided, I would have to think there is a vulnerability and exposure the minute you have a business interacting with the public in a 24/7 setting and there are no on site attendants. In this case there was which is worse, but kind of like a laundromat left unattended. Bad things usually happen at some point when no one is watching.

Each AF club is equipped with state-of-the-art security systems that control club access during non-staffed hours, video with dozens of cameras everything that goes on in the club except in the bathrooms and private tanning rooms, and includes panic buttons that members can use to summon a 911 response if needed. It's different than a laundromat. Laundromats are not member-only facilities and keys are not required to get in.

You might not want to mention video in this instance.

... TA is attempting to establish fitness facilities at many of their locations has directed our attention to support TA for now.

What TA is doing with their StayFit fitness rooms is fantastic, and it would be a great choice for any driver who is able to make regular or even occasional use of them. Generally, each room includes two or three piece of cardio equipment manufactured by Life Fitness. Life Fitness is a top brand in fitness equipment. TA is putting the good stuff in their fitness rooms.

While Diane and I are Anytime Fitness members and can go to any AF gym in the country to work out, we will use the TA fitness rooms from time to time because of scheduling or location. The price is right (free). Showers are nearby. And there is enough good equipment in the rooms to get in a good workout.

We have seen very few TA's provide sanitary wipes or other ways for people to clean the exercise equipment after using it. Where wipe dispensers have been provided, we found them empty. So if you are going to use these rooms, it would be a good idea to bring your own wipes with you to disinfect the equipment ahead of time (for your sake) and after you are done (as a courtesy to the next user).

Other than that, StaFit fitness rooms are great, and they can be a special blessing to anyone who often visits TA and Petro truck stops.

That is true on the laundromats. So that is a certain distinction. I guess I don't know how entry is controlled via a security system or how a place like that is watched. If something say happened, how would 911 help if they are not a member and don't have a key to get in? More of a curiosity question with that type of business.

I can't speak about all locations and jurisdictions. As we plan our clubs we are learning that first responders have after-hours access to all businesses in the strip mall. In an extreme emergency, they would just break a window and come in, I would think.

Once we get set up, we'll be talking to the police about this very thing. We also expect to have some if not all members of the department as gym members. Cops work all hours of the day and night and love the 24/7 gym availability.

I am not yet familiar enough with the security system to answer your questions in detail. In general, each member has an electronic key that is coded to him or her. When a member enters, that entry is documented. Video is captured 24/7, inside and out, with dozens of cameras. If a panic button is pushed (one mounted on wall, others available for members to wear around their necks), the police respond. Club owners and designated staff members can view the club anytime in real time with their smart phones or other devices.

I think that would be wise to have a set plan to allow emergency folks in. Maybe even a walk through of sorts so they are educated to the whole place. Lot of time gets wasted if they don't know.

The thing I like about the place I will be working at in Austintown is that they have an on site gym and a doctor. I'm really hoping to get this pain taken care of. I think it's mainly muscles and not arthritis.

I recently got a Snap Fitness membership (no contract). Its an ok supplement to the Anytime Fitness membership, but I wouldnt recomend them over AF.
Pros for Snap Fitness is No contract and immediate access to 1400 gyms. Other then that ,AF is a few steps ahead and more convenient.
