I turned down two unprofitable loads this week. The first refusals I have ever had in 6 months. I'm glad dispatch didn't try and whine or beg me to take the loads. They haven't called me with anymore offers since though. I think i'm in the dog house now! Is ASE or Load 1 still hiring? lol.

At E-1..I called it the "penalty box" *L*

After I refused one..I proceeded to sit in the Indy area Tues to Thursday being #1 and not a call..as I watched others coming in and going out...but there is no forced dispatch..*LOL*

Yeah, I actually hate to turn down loads. I can still count almost on 10 fingers the amount of loads that i've turned down over 4 years in this business. I guess 6 weeks on the road really got to me this time. I used to stay on the road for 18 months straight back in 2007-2008. Now I run home every chance I get.

Zoli's quote,
I have a good friend who drive for them ,he has good miles but on a cheap rate. Their FS is very low also. Not a bad company .

Who is your friend running for cheap rates and bad fuel here?
I need to talk with this person and get my arms around that one. Our vans are guaranteed their linehaul (no haggle) rate, plus a very healthy fuel surcharge. Our pay for vans is one of the strongest in the industry. $.77 per mile plus fuel; putting the total rate over .88 per mile. I would not call that cheap. Not saying you are or implying anything negative; just attempting to set the record straight and give people accurate intel. If there is doubt, I welcome anyone come by and see me personally when in the area. Our drivers and abroad. Or contact me by e-mail at [email protected]

Anything much under a buck a mile in a van, I would call cheap.
Sign of the times maybe, but nothing to celebrate at that rate.

Now if 10-11 cents per mile is a ''very healthy'' FS no more comments...If 85-87 cents per mile (including FS) is a great rate no comments.I didn't want to offend anybody, It was my opinion only.

Exactly Dave...If carriers start thinking that this is now a volume orientated business even the straights will be in trouble..

We O/O's deserve some time off as well and some kind of personal life just as regular people...these lower rates almost force us to drive longer and more miles just to make ends meet...anytime taken off just puts us behind the 8 ball again...there isn't much room for slacken or relaxing...

If carriers are going with this volume idea just to cover their margins then WE are in big doodoo....That shipper need us as bad as we need them...

IF we are the so called valued asset..aren't we worth protecting with fair compensation?

I guess it really boils down to what people's personal preferences and objectives are, right? Some like the SHORTS and to be home more often on a more frequent basis. Some want the long miles to maximize their gross while they're running, then go home for 3 - 5 days, or more. Some find themselves with homes in the midpoint of the eastern half of the U.S. and have a good blend of both. Some have high payments. Some have low payments. Some have not payments. Some accrue for maintenance, some do not. Some pay others to manage the accruals for their enterprise. Some bought wisely. Some bought poorly. Yadda, yadda.

Any way you look at it, there is a gut feel and personal attraction mechanism that draws us to the organizations that we follow. For some it's L.O. (J. Elliot, you're a class act), others it's the Black Feline, etc., etc. We must respect those elements of personal attraction.

ASE truly works it's tail off, rooter-to-tooter to keep our guys moving 24/7/365 - and everyone is an individual with personal visibility here. And that's not to say that doesn't happen elsewhere, but we take pride in the FACT that we are not a churn mill with any mode of equipment, and our O/O's are not three to twenty deep at any popular (or unpopular) destination. We take pride in the FACT that we are experiencing the best retention that we have ever experienced, and we are GROWING FORWARD.

I/we live this business - and we're continuously innovative as a result. Period. To all, a great weekend...whether you are in TN or FL...

If you are curious about the way we do business, please call anyone in our organization (including myself). If you have something nice to say about us, by all means, please bring it. If you have something negative to say about us, please let me know so I can 5-Why this/these issue/issues - because we want to be better - and we won't if we don't address the valid negatives or areas for continuous improvement.

Then you have to get away from the "volume orientated business" approach...Quality service and value, for quality rates..Not every load is suited to every driver...you have to get off this turn down rate kick and truly evaluate WHY the driver has refused it...Invest more time into the drivers needs and concerns and not so much lip service and the line...Look what we are doing for you....we don't buy it...

Hey Kaizen,

I've got a quick question maybe you can answer. I'm a T/T long time company driver....been kicking around the idea of O/O and expedite for about 2 years...on and off.

I saw that your rates for T/T are $1.60/mile with FSC. And that is listed in a magazine ad, as well as here online.

My question...what is the mileage breakdown for T/T per mile and the FSC seperately? And what happens should fuel go to say $4.00 per gallon? Is that rate ALL miles as well?

I saw/read here the breakdown for CV's is .77mile plus .11fsc for total of
.88

BTW...Solo info , no team.

Thx

A-Rex

I wonder if at a actual fuel cost of about $.15 per mile in a cargo van, and you are getting
two thirds of that back as a freebee, what in the world is the complaint? Seems to me that a $25,000 van being run 500,000 miles would cost anuther nickle a mile or so. So yer gett'in $.90, an yer cost is $.20 seems to me it leaves $.70 per mile less maintenance. Splain to me if i'm missing something.
