That is why they do it. Makes it far easier to pass bad laws that way. Call things "mean" does the same thing.
But, we have to call this issue what it is. My buddy should not have to prove he is a citizen when he goes to register his kids for school. They would not make me prove it. IMO this is due to he has an hispanic background. This is racial and nothing else.

First off, there is no such race as "Hispanic". There are people who speak Spanish from many different countries, races and religions. It is NOT racial.
What those who are here legally need to do is start standing up and help stop the illegal movement across our borders. Just as the "moderate" Muslim must stand up openly and not only say that they are opposed to terror within religion but put their lives on the live to stop it.
As long as the "good" minorities are silent and do not stand up to stop this the problems will continue.
To be frank...the thought enters my mind when I deal with Hispanics in the course of doing this....I think to myself " Are they legal?" When someone hears my accent...do they think the same? wonder if I am legal?

I am still of the opinion though that if you are legal you have nothing to worry about and would show your ID/papers willingly , proudly even.
I know in the UK some "groups" think that they are "targeted" too, but when you have crimes with a description of ....... for example a middle East persuasion .... then of course the police are going to "target" that group.
Its not racist, its police doing their job - just as the police/Border Patrol are doing their job looking for Illegals.
Yes it will be inconvenient to some and they will get annoyed but as long as it is done with tact and diplomacy by the Police/Border Patrol I cannot see anything wrong with checking ID.

I will say it again, I, and any citizen, are not required to carry "papers" as proof that we are citizens.
My buddy Juan, is a third generation american, with the same constitutional protections as me. He should not and does not need to show "papers".
You better never fish the Detroit River, fishermen and hunters are pulled over all the time out there and they have to produce their papers. I cannot remember the form that we are required to carry out there. It is a immigration form. A passport is ok as is a Nexus card. Don't get checked out there and not have your "papers" you could be ticketed, or worse. It makes no difference out there if your name is Juan or John.
Watch out for Canadian Coast Guard cutters too. They like to harass US waterfowl hunters on the US side of the "River".
A friend of mine was "boarded" by a crew member from a Canadian cutter 4 or 5 years ago. He was fishing, on the US side. They claimed he was in Canadian waters. He was not. He also was NOT anchored and had a Canadian fishing license.
It is rampant, not racial at all.

Layout, those are international waters, no one owns them hence if they are asking for papers to prove who is who, it is alright with me. They, the US and Canadian coast guard and DHS are there to do a job and that job is to protect our respective countries. IF some 'sportsman' is inconvenience by the check, go hunt some where else.
AS for Italy and Poland not having issues with invaders there, they have very serious problems. One of the issues with Greece and Italy alike is the amount of money they spend on social programs during the time leading up to deportation. Italy now has a Libyan issue with the amount of refugees who just showed up. Germany has been known to be very very cruel to their invaders, I understand they deport them in record time and make our process look like it Disney created it.
