Air Freight And The TSA

I love the whole premise of the new security measures BUT the seemingly ridiculous measures are over the top but we all NEED this to prevent the worst from happening again...Ive used my TWIC card three times in two years, been in and out of many airports and secure facilities, seems theres not a real STANDARD...When I took the TSA tests for security clearance etc, the tests was really for some third grader....THIS IS A WIRE....When I used to deliver Stationary for United Stationers in Dallas I used to go to Boeing, BELL, TI, EXTRON, and about a hundred other secure facilitys, they rarely ever checked our credentials....seems to be a huge run around for very little real security...

I guess times are changing but I wonder for the MONEY is the return worth it to us taxpayers or are some firms making serious bank over TERROR ALERT, Blah Blah Blah

Being a former cross border specialist in a way...and doing a lot of air freight cross border....since 9/11 security has gotten anal...it is for the most part, a front, a BIG show for John Q public...a look at them and a big feel warm and secure sham....put on with YOUR tax dollars....with the creation of the DHS and then TSA...

The only time I wished I had TWIC was at the port in Panama City. I had to pay $20 for my escort and the escort didn't seem to interested in security. (Not that kind of escort!!!)

DHS imagination checkpoint in Texas for a free libertarian. I ser you traveling alone? Oh! am I going into Mexico? No ser immigration checkpoint, are you a US citizen? Well then the US the Constitution says that I may be free in my travels, unstoped and unmolested without permission or probable cause, what makes you think I'm not a US citizen? Whare you going ser? I don't wish to answer any more questions! (The dog handler speaks up from behind him) "He checks out." Have a good day ser. I drive off. [ A word of warning. Do not attempt this unless you have cameras going and do know the Constitution, and you are a US citizen, are clean, and DoNot! pull into secondary which is a Constitution free zone.] People ask me why I do this and why I don't just answer the questions and be on my way. It is because thats just what the people of Germany, Poland, France, England, and meny others said when the Weimar government of Germanys Department of Homeland Security started imposing checkpoints. And we know how that turned out. A central government that point guns at its citizens to make them do as there told is the real terrorism. A government that goes into other countries and points guns at them to make them do what they're told are the real terrorist. Henry Kissinger said- " military men are just dumb animals to be used as pawns for foreign policy"

I delivered there to Berg Pipe a few years ago. I had some vital parts for one of their dust collectors that blew up and killed a worker a week earlier. The guards would not let me in without a TWIX card. They even gave me all the pertinent paperwork to apply for the card and told me to come back when I had one.

I did my well used expediter song and dance about hot freight and how somebody needed this stuff asap. When I mentioned it was for the dust collector, something clicked or possibly broke off, in a guard's head. One of them made some calls and after about an hour I was escorted in by some laborer in a pickup truck. No escort fees.

I don't understand the reason for this security and the TWIT card. Berg Pipe, I believe is located on port property, but is this necessary? Especially for inbound freight.

"No TSA worker got fired when the underwear bomber made it to Detroit."

Why would there be?
:confused: The flight did not originate in the US so at no point was he subject to TSA inspections.

Not that I am that big a fan, I think it is a bad program, but TSA was not the problem, that time anyway.

Good point! Do I really need to explain how screwed up that is that we have to go through the scrutiny and pay for it as if we are the problum.

They also gave me the paper work to apply for twix and told me I may not be admitted next time without it. I don't remember who the cosignee was. It was just a warehouse about two city blocks into the facility. One of the workers in the warehouse was my escort.
I too believe in sensabile security. Unfortunantly sometimes "wannabes" and people with huge egos reach policy making positions and security begins to look like Bozo's Circus
