No need to reconcile anything, I don't believe Levin to be a sexist.....see the description below.
Of course you don't believe he's a sexist. How can you? You've already gone out there on that limb and stated that you like how his mind works. You can't back down now. You're only "out" is to ignore his sexism and claim it's not sexism. And by default, you are then also endorsing his sexist remarks, as well as how he makes mean spirited jokes about how women look. Since it's OK for him to do it to women, I assume it's fine and dandy if I start referring to you as Your Thighness, since that certainly fits well with the Diva theme, to name but one well-fitting fit.
Tell me again who the sexist is?
Again, I don't think so........
I can provide you with examples, in your own words, if you like. When you make fun of or belittle the opposite sex, in any context, that's sexist. "Johnny" and his testicles in Mama's purse immediately come to mind. That's not just sexist, it's stereotypically sexist.
Don't worry. It doesn't make you bad, tho.
I don't think this description fits Levin OR myself but of course, you're free to think any foolish thing you like.
The only foolish thinking is to think a narrowly applied
description of a subset of a sexist is the same as the broader, complete
definition of sexism and sexist. Using your narrow definition, you're right, it doesn't for either of you. But the broader definition,
and its applications, do absolutely.
The broad definition of sexism is:
Discrimination based on gender, especially [but not exclusively] discrimination against women.
Attitudes, conditions, or behaviors that promote stereotyping of social roles based on gender.
And the definition of a sexist is
a person with sexist attitudes or behaviors, or one who fosters sexism.
But the term has many applications, including that of bigotry, where one accuses the opposite sex of doing something that they themselves do, or more pointedly, showing disdain for someone of the opposite sex because they don't behave in a manner in which you want them to. Those tables can easily be turned. Women think and behave a certain way, and if you think your way is the best way, the superior way, and if men don't think and act the way you want them to then it is unacceptable, then you are guilty of sexist superiority. Sexism is close-mindedness, partisan in favor of a particular gender role. It is preconceived, predisposed and highly opinionated to disparage and belittle those of the opposite sex who do not behave in a manner in which you wish them to behave. That's you, Babe.
As a side note....you should probably be more careful of the names/labels you pin on people.....
I am careful about it.
By the way, you CLAIM to be conservative.....the topic of this thread concerns Mark's book.....have you bothered to read it?
You say that like you doubt my claim. I'm shocked. <snort> Just because I'm not a Kool-Aid drinking, conservative flag waving sheeple does not mean my claim is false. If you go back and read many of my posts you will see that they come from a very conservative bent, even where I'm criticizing the comments of so-called conservatives. Then again, you may have to have someone else explain my posts to you, since in the past you have shown a significant deficiency in comprehending the meaning of what I have written, and instead have invented your own meanings for what I have said.
As for whether or not I've bothered to read Mark Levin's book, no, I have not. I already agree with probably 85% of everything he says. Reading his book won't change that. If the opportunity to read it for free presents itself, I'll jump on it.
