Hello all,
We have accepted a load that is picking up at the Palace Theater in New York. Address is: 1564 Broadway, NY 10036. We will be coming in from 433 Old Gate lane, Milford, CT (the Pilot).
We are a little nervous about doing this, but it was going to happen sooner or later. We do not pickup until 10pm, so the traffic MAY not be as bad!!?!?!?
Can anyone, with this experience, help us with directions IN and OUT of the city?
Our delivery is in Orlando, Florida.
Any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!!!
Laura

NY is ok, I was a taxi driver for 8 years before I moved in Florida, and I miss NY.

New York can be very interesting. I remember driving a 45ft tour bus into the city to pick up passengers. My destination was the theatre district. It looked as though the whole world was there in that one place and I could only move a few inches at a time. I had to drive a few times around the block (including Times Square) in order to retrieve all my passengers, but it was not bad. People were very patient, overall. I would have to say though that it was probably the toughest situation I'd ever been in with a large vehicle, but I felt such a sense of accomplishment once I had everyone aboard and we exited the city. By the way, after exiting the tunnel and entering New Jersey, the view of New York City is one beautiful sight that I will never forget. Enjoy the trip and the view.

Commercial vehicles are not allowed on Parkways in NY.You can go on expressways such as the BQE or Long Island Expressway, not allowed on the Hutch.
I would take 95S,to the Cross Bronx Expressway which is 95,before you hit the GW bridge there is an exit for Broadway,go south on Broadway to the theater. Not the best neighborhood so make sure everything is locked tight.

>I would take 95S,to the Cross Bronx Expressway which is 95,before >you hit the GW bridge there is an exit for Broadway,go south on >Broadway to the theater.>

So, if I stay on 95S is it Cross Bronx Expressway or does it have an exit for Cross Bronx Expressway? If I am going for the Broadway exit before the GW...am I taking a right or left off of that exit??
Anyone know the exit numbers?? (I feel so stupid...someone please draw me a picture...HA) The only thing that changed on the directions was take Cross Bronx Expressway. Nothing else changed..right? Or does that change Dan's directions entirely?
Thanks for letting me know about Expressways and Parkways...I forgot to mention that I am in a straight truck.
Thanks,
Laura

As Rich mentioned, with a straight truck you must stay off the parkways.

Stay on 95 (on the local lanes), that is the the Cross Bronx expy. When you exit for Broadway just head south, you will be about 3-4 miles north of the theater district. Leaving head south to 42nd st,try to follow the signs to the Lincoln Tunnel, this will put you on the NJ Tpk and south you go,

Ok, so here is the real Deal, I live In Brooklyn and I dont take any loads going in or out of Manhattan, mainly cause the docks are just to low for a 13'1 truck, STAY OFF THE PARKWAYS NO COMMERCIAL TRUCKS ON PARKWAYS EVER! THE HUTCH HAS LOW BRIDGES THE FDR HAS LOW BRIDGES

take the GWB get off at the B'way exit and just head south, the st numbers will get lower, u can take the lincoln tunnel out if u are real carefull when u enter the tunnell not to set of the height sensors, the tunnell is 13'4ish u may wanna drop the air out of the suspension if it makes u fel more comfortable.

BTW no one is holding a gun to your head, u dont have to accept any load you dont feel comfortable doing, dont let these ##### in dispatch force you to do anything you dont wanna do, its taken me 5 years to get these douchebags in line, they dont even call me with MAnhattan offers unless its paying a minimum of $500.00 and even than I dont always take them.

Good Luck Bro

isn't Broadway restricted from trucks from 4am to midnight? At least that’s what the NYPD told me when I called last month asking about a drop off there but the drop was 3am so was no biggy but decided didn’t want it any way since I was over 200 miles to PU and no deadhead offered for a minni just made up my mind if I’d got stuck there till 4 I’d been screwed. Also there are a few spots on Broadway that are 12’ 6†clearance.

Good luck
Spray your truck with Pam cooking oil in case you get graffitied it’ll wash right off LOL

never been to downtown nyc been in bronx brooklyn and long island but we never got a delivery in downtown (which i am thankfull hated going through nyc)
and if u need a layover if your with fed ex try the vince lombardi on 95 its a service area so try and get there early and park close to building i guess its a bad area but as for getting loads out we never had to stay more than a day there usually got something from
drug company (ugh for the life of me cant remember the name)
or drive down to bordentown to the petro there been there like 2 times first time was like for 2 days and never had no problems with anyone coming up to the truck

Best bet take down directions given then look in the front of a trk stop book for NY and get the # for roads or state police, call them and tell then your plan of entry and they will be glad to tell you if there has been any problems with that route ie.. traffic, constrution ect. they actually like the calls.
