I should also add that my right foot is light and I accelerate very gradually. My hero in the story was the tortoise not the hare.

I disagree & believe him 100%. First of all the credibility of the poster. A+. Next is the fact that I have a 2000 van getting 18+. Not at all times mind ya, but I have stretches where I do. His is a few years newer than mine. I totally believe him.

I'm actually more suprised that there aren't any hitting 20+. I thought every few years or so the mpg went up by a mile or so.

19 mpg in a gasser! I call bull!

I have couple of cargo vans, I use syn oil but I can't see any difference. Why should syn oil help on fuel millage???? In my opinion best way is 80- 60 in the tires and 60 miles per hr speed. Rest it's nothing but legends...

Well I guess no one here is a fan of the Tornando. They really work.

My key for better mpg:

1 More Air in tires
2 K&N air filter
3 Syn Oil
4 Tornando
5 Hot plugs [Gas burner]

These 5 things got me 9 more mpg on a 2003 GMC Savana 2500 6.0 gas @ no more than 2000 RPMs

One more time why do you think that syn oil help you for better mpg????

Synthetic oil has a better friction reduction than dino, and once the engine gets past the break end period, it maintains this friction reduction needed to reduce the energy needed to run the engine - hence better mileage.

May be true but I bet that nobody can see that difference in mpg....

Yes I have, from 16 to 17.5 - 1997 dodge 5.9 cummins.

Nothing else was done to the truck, I mean nothing but changing oil from Dino to synthetic.

Okay, youre all convincing me to go synthetic, even though I am not too comfortable leaving oil in an engine that long. What synthetic oil do I get to be equivalent to the 15w40? I change my oil every 5k now.In the spring, I'll do the trans and rear end.How much is it a gallon? My van takes 16 quarts.what brand does the majority prefer?I do like Mobil, but I have found that by using Ford/motorcraft oil it does not use any oil at all, which I think is good for over 200k on the engine.

Leo has a poll going right now as to which syn oil is being used the most...if you continue to change your oil @ 5000 mile intervals with syn, you are throwing your money away, so don't change over...it aint cheap...but when you take in oil changes 3 times longer, you can be ahead of the game.....AmsOil as does most manufactures make a diesel oil and offer different weights just as with regular oil.. use the same weight as you are.

Guido there are many quality synthetic 5W40 oils from Chevron, Shell, Valvoline, Exxon/Mobil, Castrol and all are good quality CJ-4 oils. Many are available at WallyMart. Exxon/Mobil even has a 0W40 CJ-4 oil!

Because it ain't possible.

why not? what do you drive? what is your experience? how fast do you drive it? it is very easy to leave one sentence responses. so explain your knowledge of this for us.

the k&n gives better breathing but at the expense of more dirt in the engine because of larger holes in the filtering media. no good for the cylinder walls.
