What are the differences between an 06 and 07 model year motors on an MBE 4000?

The difference is 12 months.;)
No seriously, not sure except some of the 07's are likely regen engines and the 06's wouldn't be.

I would get an 07 over an 06 as long as you don't have any extra emissions equipment because they had an extra year to work on the EGR bugs.

Just make sure it doesn't have a dpf filter. If you can't identify one by sight, educate yourself before committing to a purchase. I would not place a whole lot of value on an 07 vs 06, but there could be some. The main thing is to avoid the extra emissions (dpf) if possible...in my opinion.

Just keep in mind that you are entering the world of egr engines. It can be a very expensive experience.

An 07 will be allowed in California until 2023. Our 06 will not be allowed in after 2013. We are getting close to a millon miles. If we were to need a rebuild my thoughts are to go with a newer motor that would be CARB compliant.
Just trying to figure out what the differences are.

Definitely a good point that I had not considered. I wonder if the 07 is the only requirement..or if it has to be an 07 with a dpf ? You would need to be sure of those specifics before making the jump.

Just an in-frame or replacement engine won't cut it. Has to have the DPF. Tack another $16k onto your redo price tag.

The options, IMHO, are to take California off your registration, or buy a new (or newer) truck. If you're thinking about TVAL, the latter is pretty much the only option. If you're staying in surface, I'd pick the former. Having a hard time justifying the expense for a few runs west per year, myself.

I guess I could always go with an LNG engine. Flying J is building plenty of fueling locations. Be interesting to know how much one costs.

sure you know this but keep in mind and check the engine sticker. it is the date of manufacturer of the engine not the year of truck.

I have on '07 with a 900 that's '06 specs, no DPF. I can't begin to tell you how incredibly heartbroken I am that Cali doesn't want me in their state.

(My apologies if any sarcasm dripped onto your keyboard.)
