My Next Cargo van. The Nissan NV

Ford has a better van than the E series in Europe. They make so much money in the US with the old vans why bring the full size transit to the US. Follow the money if you want answers. Same goes for GM products.

USDOT # confussion/ what type of plate

That's not a bad idea Brisco. When I was an IBMr, I drove all over the country in my own minivan hauling all kinds of stuff. They paid per mile but they didn't provide plates, permits, insurance, etc. It sounds the same as what you are going to be doing. You may be over thinking.

USDOT # confussion/ what type of plate

Bill is correct, best to hear it from the horses mouth from you home state Motor Vehicle Office. My state says that if I am under 10,001 lbs and not hauling Hazmat I don't need a DOT#, I don't have to log and I don't have to cross scales.

    Satellite Radio In Van

I just use the small magnetic antenna that came with the radio, works great, no need for one of those supertrucker antennas they sell in the chrome shop.

    Nissan van

Who cares if its ugly? If it looks good but makes you less money would that be better? Vans are like women, the good looking ones always cost you more and leave you pennyless.:D

    Anyone leasing their van?

After reading my last post and being new around here I would like to clarify; tranny = transmission, NOT a 6'2" 'woman' with an adams apple.

    Anyone leasing their van?

I think most modern engines if well maintained and doing highway miles will have a chance of reaching 500K without too many repairs. I always worry about the trannys.

    Anyone leasing their van?

I am not familiar with the expeditie business, in the past I have leased construction equipment and trailers and was wondering if its prevelent with CVs. I appreciate your info. You are correct if you are looking at purchasing a $30-40K vehicle, a payment of $700-800 per month is not that far off.

    Anyone leasing their van?

I would think so too. I am new around here and just trying to gather information. Maybe you can make it work with tax write offs etc, but the high miles at the end of the lease would probably kill you.

    Anyone leasing their van?

I was just curious if anyone leases their van from say Ryder or Penske? Is it working out for you and what are the costs involved? Small van, not straight truck.

    Question about load weight.

This post doesn't belong here, it's too simple! Go away and make it complicated and confusing like all the others.:D

    van for newbies

The small bus vans are generally low miles, are usually the LWB version and have the raised roofs, so are excellent buys. I don't see having the windows as a problem, just board up the inside. But, oh-my it is fugly. As Moot points out, look for signs of taxi abuse.

    I like this van

I'd cut the back of that roof and hinge it so it lifts up for loading, kinda like a tailgate but it opens upwards. Cheaper than new doors.
