    Cargo Van/ Sprinter

I wouldn't say no one is looking for Sprinters - who told you that ? Sprinters seemed to be preferred over normal cargo vans from what I can gather - due to the increased height. As far as the 77 cpm goes, make sure you figure in the FSC (fuel surcharge) as well - that will add to the rate...

    Diesel engine

Ken, Sounds like a cool project ! Can you feed power back to your electric utility for credit against your bill ?

    Diesel engine

Diesel engines: Howstuffworks "How Diesel Engines Work" Howstuffworks "Diesel Engines vs. Gasoline Engines" As I understand it an alternator will make some "power" (voltage & current) at about any speed - however the higher the output required, the more speed (and therefore more horsepower)...

    Plagiarism

Heheheh .... touché ..... !!! I got caught up in trying to make sure there was no double negative and over compensated. Fixed now ....

    Plagiarism

What Turtle and Cheri said. I don't think that anyone here expects perfect spelling, punctuation, or grammar - I will often mis-spell something on purpose in posts just for the effect that it might create or show my attitude or view on a matter ....add some "color" I guess. I do not think that...

    Need advice (cargo van)

Good one Jim - and spot on. :D Having said that, I'd say that no infractions within the last 5 years might be some evidence of a change. I'd imagine that most all of us have something utterly stupid and irresponsible at one or two points in our lives ....... ;) What say you ?

    Call Me the Breeze

All other issues aside (like the reduction of your load carrying capacity), yes having some weight over or behind the rear axles will help you with traction .... in snow primarily. However it will not help with ice - studded tires might ..... but I have no idea if they are legal in other states...

    Need advice (cargo van)

I agree with Cheri - it's probably the insurance that is the problem. As far as averages go ..... I'm averaging 1502.57 paid miles per week in a Sprinter that can only haul two pallets (tall cargo van basically) That average is for the seven weeks I have been in service since switching to a...

    need advice about bolt tristate

blizz, I am on with Bolt with a long and tall Sprinter (but it can only carry two pallets because I have a sleeper in it) I started on November 30, 2007. I was previously with a smaller carrier that paid a good per mile rate and a decent fuel surcharge - the problem was 99.9% of all loads...

    tax person

I'm not Frank and I didn't do the holiday inn thing either but my guess is that it depends highly on your individual situation. If you want (or need) more deductions now, early in the life of the vehicle, to reduce taxable income, you will certainly be better off taking the per mile rate as...

I'm going to be sitting how long?

While I was not an OTR driver prior to expediting, at my previous carrier we almost always returned to our "home area" after very load. This meant that I had sat very little - I generally only stopped long enough to catch some sleep if I needed it - and then rolled on home. When I started...

    Chevrolet HCV

Capacity-wise it is close to the older (2006 and earlier) long wheelbase, high-roof Sprinters - 450 cubes vs. 473 for the Sprinter I believe. I think the newer Sprinters are somewhat larger. Good to see more competition though.

    Sprinter Mechanic in Detroit/Toledo area

Definitely a reasonable price for a dealer on the oil changes - I do my own and I have $65+ in it for the oil and filter. Nice to see someone out there is reasonable and honest - keep givin' 'em the business.

    tips on pumping fuel

Vapor is far less of an issue with diesel and other distillates of similar type (home heating oil, kero, jet A, etc.) than it is with gasoline. Gasoline is EXTREMELY volatile, diesel much, much less so (volatility being the measure of how easily something will vaporize) Diesel is...

    Stoopid Noobie Tricks

Hmmm ....... lessee ..... How about this one - I'm in Franklin, OH at the Pilot and they call me about one picking up in Troy, OH going to Belvidere, IL. I tell her I'll it run and then she says "You need to go - RIGHT NOW !" so off I go flying to the shipper up through Dayton to Troy ...

    Hopin' you're all doing well...

Dang !!!! Funny about how paths can cross (or almost) in this business - even in as big a country as it is. I was somewhere this past week ..... maybe the J in South Beloit ? ..... and there was a Panther Savanna that pulled in and parked a couple of spaces to the right and in front of me...

    Espar Coolant Heaters

I'd think for that price I'd look at getting the AirTronic and a remote starter - that way you can start the vehicle from the house without even stepping outside and it will be warm when you get there. You would probably save about $600 at least. I'd call and talk to Ray up at Espar of...
