    It's all in your perspective....

An entry from my favorite [and only] blog "Boobs, injuries, & Dr Pepper" that reminds me of why I love my work. A customer called me, frustrated. "You have to do something about this premium!" "Let me take a look, ma'am." "Gah! High! We're broke! You have to do something!" I was stunned. "You...

    Stupid folks need not apply....

Arcelor-Mittal Steel, feeling the need for a shakeup, hired a new take-charge CEO. The new man, touring a plant, felt the need to show a 'no tolerance plan' for slackers, so when he spotted a guy leaning against the wall, he went into action. Asking the guy how much he was paid, getting the...

    The end of the world

With a nod to Skeeter Davis (& Moot) Why do folks keep on wanting To drive all over this land? Why are they in such demand? Don't they know it's the end of the world? It ended when they banned the van. Why do carriers keep on signing Newbies with contracts in hand? Why do they bother to plan...

    A WalMart experience

This story happened a few years ago, when I was a B unit O/O. I got a load offer, just as the techs at WalMart in Chicago had started to change the oil. When it was finished, I left in a hurry. (Too much of a hurry to go back inside when I found they'd left the van unlocked, windows down, and...

    The signs are everywhere

I've been noticing an awful lot of "memorial" signs, such as "The Trooper John J 'Buzzy' Smith Memorial Highway" recently. So now I'm wondering what will happen when all the highways, bridges, tunnels, overpasses, pedestrian walkways, and interchanges have been named in honor of someone - will...

    Your first time

I'm referring to the first time you went to a concert, in case you thought otherwise...The other music-oriented threads have been so popular, I just thought here's a chance to show your age, lol.;) My first time was Ray Charles & Gladys Knight, in 1971, and I was hooked on live music from then...

    Whose bright idea was it?

To make the larger, heavier, slower vehicles (trucks) yield the right of way to smaller, lighter, faster 4 wheelers, at rest areas? To mount the tissue holder so low on the bathroom wall that you have to get your forehead on the floor to grab the tissue? To post the legal blood alcohol limit...

    Hollywood

Does anyone know whether the famous Hollywood sign in the hills is still there? I seem to remember reading that it was removed, having proven to be a little too popular with the "famous last jump" crowd, which would explain why I couldn't find it today, driving all over Hollywood...Hey - I...

    Music as expression

I am really enjoying the thread on 'best rock & roll song', because music is, as Packmule said, a very important part of us. It's cool to see what we share with people that actually comes as a surprise, lol. So here's another query: what song do you have, or would you want, as the ringtone on...

    I was SO bored

I wrote some lyrics - for drivers... To the tune of "White Christmas" I'm dreaming of a nice, long run, From coast to coast would be just great... With frieght that's not too large, A hefty fuel surcharge, And nothing at all to make me late... I'm dreaming of some nice, long runs, For...

    Giggles

With thanks to KiniLiu, who sent them to me, here are a few of my favorite giggles: My grandson & I entered the vacation cabin with the lights off, to keep from attracting pesky insects inside. Still, a few fireflies came in with us. Noticing them before I did, he said "It's no use, Grandpa...

    Wild parrots in Chicago?

I recently watched an interesting documentary about wild parrots on Telegraph Hill, in San Francisco, and it mentioned there are also flocks in Chicago. Online, I found the locations to be at Washington Park, and at Hyde Park. Has anyone ever seen these, or any other wild parrot flocks?
