    aceptence rateing

It's interesting about acceptance ratings. At FedEx, if your acceptance percentage is 70% or more, you will be eligible for their Four Star award (other critera also apply). There are not many jobs where you can say no thirty percent of the time and still have a job.

    Getting sick on the road

Impressive, Greg, that in the midst of your discomfort (too mild of a term? maybe agony), you share your story to show people how to be prepared for such events on the road and why they should be.

    E Rumble Strips

Yes, we are interested. Kindly send the info. I have read about this system before in trucking magazines and thought, yea, OK, another high-tech gadget that does what drivers should be doing on their own. But you got me thinking about in a different way, explaining as you did how sold you are on...

LDWS cost? Where does one go to get it installed? Can installation be done by one's self?

    front axle capacity

Our straight truck front axle is spec'ed at 14,600 lbs. from the factory. Tires are purchased to match that capacity. State laws vary in how they view steer tire weights. Weight per inch of tire surface on the road is sometimes used. So is weight per inch of wheel width. Memory has faded on...

    Turning circle radius

That goes to show that turning radius is a function of truck specs and not truck brand. The turning radius of the Western Star we once drove was such that if we were in Rhode Island, we could not make a U-turn without spilling into an adjacent state.

    Heading into Quebec?

If we are going to require immigrants to learn English to live and work in the U.S., would it not also be fair to require U.S. citizens to learn French to live and work in Quebec?

    Strategic thinking?

I did not see what chetjester edited out and apologized for, but he did and that's good, right? Bruno's comments are appreciated too. But the topic started with a very good question from JoeMP2. If we could get back to answering that, many readers can benefit. JoeMP2 said, "What new tactics or...

    Strategic thinking?

After a year or so of expediting, we settled into the same freight-finding tactics and strategy that we use today. As long as it keeps working, we will keep using it. We identified the kind of freight we wish to haul. For simplicity sake, call it FedEx Custom Critical White Glove freight. We...

    Thank you FedEx!!!

Border crossings can be a major pain in the _ _ _ sometimes. I would not want to do them without the competency FedEx Custom Critical backs us up with. It's a pain to be stuck on one side of the border. It would be an even bigger pain if we did not have FedEx Custom Critical dispatch to call.

I 80 in Pa toll road update

I wrote this in my blog on August 3, 2007. I learned today that U.S. Congressman, Robert Brady (a/k/a Bob Brady) favors charging tolls on I-80 through Pennsylvania. I was disappointed to also learn that Congressman Brady has no idea how fuel tax is charged to truckers and distributed to the...

    FedEx Express Centers

This seems like a long overdue change that recognizes the fact that FedEx Custom Critical hauls nowhere near the percentage of automotive freight as it used to, is that right? We have been with FedEx Custom Critical for over four years and I don't recall picking up freight in more than one or...

    Who's getting the better deal

A cleaning deposit would not be unreasonable but I like better DaveKC's third-party cleaner approach. That eliminates, or at least reduces, controversy over how dirty the truck actually is and whether or not the fleet owner is unjustly helping himself to damage deposit money. If the money is...

how not to unload a truck

A driver standing on the ground below in a seemingly safe place away from the forklift might end up in a world of hurt. Make no mistake. Loading docks are always dangerous places to be. It pays to keep your eyes open and your head looking around.

A question for FXCC contractors and drivers

At every pickup and delivery, the last thing we say before leaving is "Thank you for using FedEx." I once said that to a guy who had his back turned to me as he was closing the dock door and I was walking out. He froze in place for about ten seconds, turned to me and said, "In eleven years...
