    Sleeper floor

When our house-sitter's cats messed up our carpet, we used a product called Atmosklear with good results. One application and the cat urine odor disappeared, for good. The stuff is not cheap but it works exactly as advertised. If you are correct about fluffy's piddle party, you might think about...

    Best Tire Gauge

Nothing special used here; dial gauge purchased at a truck stop. I chose dial because it is easy to read without my reading glasses. Have checked it against gauges used in tire shops. It has been giving accurate readings for four years.

    Mechanic's Warning!!

    >I think that if I needed surgery I would prefer a surgeon >with 20 years of experience vs a guy just out of Medical >School who has to refer to his Surgeons Guide of Good >Practices just to find out what scalpel to use. That over-simplifies things. For very good reasons, the value of...

    Mechanic's Warning!!

    >Believe it or not, we did have an old timer (mechanic) spray >a little ether in there the other day when we couldn't get >started. Fortunately for us it didn't seem to cause a >problem but the advice from this most recent guy made us >realize we have to watch such things and that was the...

    Mechanic's Warning!!

A whole lot of mechanical disasters can be avoided if you take the time to read, understand, and comply with your operator's manual. If you are in a used truck and do not have the manual, it would be worth the effort to order one from a parts department or maybe buy one off eBay. A good site...

    Is It hot out there??

We recently picked up in Atlanta, where the outside temp was 104F (actual) and delivered in New Hampshire, where it was 52F; exactly half of the pickup temp. For the first time in a couple of weeks, we finally got to spend a night where we did not have to listen to one of three motors running...

    Break One-Nine for Nashville Information

Thank you for the tire shop tip. As things turned out, there was a tire shop just two miles away from our delivery. We went there. Finding a third nail on closer inspection, I pulled all three out. None had penetrated the tire. All were stuck in the lugs. No tire repair was needed. Had this...

    FIRST WEEK IN THE BOOKS

Two things jumped out from your post; the vow to never return to "that town" again, and your idea that some loads involved too much deadhead. Success in expediting requires an open mind. Any time you take a vow to never do something again, you limit your opportunities the next time around...

    Break One-Nine for Nashville Information

Can anyone recommend a good tire shop in the Nashville, TN area? Doing a truck walk-around at a fuel stop, I discovered two large nails in our right rear inner dual. The tire is holding air for now and we will be fine through our morning delivery. But before I try pulling the nails out, I want...

    Minneapolis-Saint Paul Layover Spots

I tried that NASCAR simulator at the Mall. Not having driven real NASCAR cars, I cannot say for sure how realistic the simulators are, but they seem pretty realistic to me. My performance disappointment was real. They give you a printout when you are done. It showed that I suck as a race car driver.

    Las Vegas

Our favorite layover spot in Vegas is the KOA Kampground (as they spell it); just north of the Circus Circus casino resort hotel. The hotel faces the Strip (Las Vegas Blvd.). The KOA entrance is on a side street on the north side of the hotel. They permit straight trucks there. If you have...

    Minneapolis-Saint Paul Layover Spots

I forgot to mention something of interest to drivers with Carrier reefers on their trucks. A Carrier dealer is in Bloomington, MN, within walking distance to the Mall of America. We have not used them ourselves for the scheduled NIST certifications some FedEx Custom Critical trucks are required...

    Minneapolis-Saint Paul Layover Spots

This is in response to a question Turtle raised in the Minneapolis Bridge thread. I'm answering it in a new thread to keep the other one on topic. Turtle asked, "Where do people sit when in Minneapolis-St Paul, anyway? Doesn't seem to be many truck stops around here." The no-brainers are the...

    UPS Express Critical

I don't understand the "But Phil" line you are taking, and I don't know much about the kind of business you run. Do you have a web site or sales literature that would help me understand what you want me and others to know about you and your business?

    Your Best Freight Handling Equipment

Handy items we carry include: Door stops, available at any hardware store. They are useful for some inside deliveries. 4x4 wood blocks. They are slightly taller than our pallet jack forks. For say a heavy fireproof file cabinet, rock the cabinet to one side and put a block under it. Rock it to...

    UPS Express Critical

You will get no arguement from me about loyalty and familiarity, and the good service that nurtures both. We have had it happen several times that shippers have told us they are back to Custom Critical after trying cut-rate providers. Where advertising, and big-brand names, and deidcated sales...

    UPS Express Critical

What UPS is doing is a smart thing, but I question their use of the prhase, "For the first time in the industry,...." Panther has been advertising a one-call service for a while. FedEx led the way. FedEx had FedEx Expedited Freight Services up and running over a year ago. Unlike UPS, FedEx has a...
