John Wesley must be so proud

People misuse the word antisocial, just as you have. It doesn't mean not social [or friendly, or communicative], it means not exhibiting a social concern for the welfare of others. Fraternities are social in name, but quite antisocial in some of their traditions, behaviors, and their chosen...

John Wesley must be so proud

Antisocial does not mean the opposite of social. It means "not conforming to social standards". Hazing, binge drinking, and rape culture are antisocial activities. Except, of course, when the antisocial activities are widely engaged in by young men of some social standing - then it's just...

Franklin Graham and the cultural battles.

Oh yes they do! Or they get "input" from strictly controlled groups, excluding those who disagree. [Check out the photo of Mike Pence signing the controversial Indiana bill] The "sudden inundation" has been rather more gradual, over the past decade or so, but the "outing" of formerly hidden...

Franklin Graham and the cultural battles.

The MSM is owned by corporations, who rely on advertising - what does that tell you about the make up of the genpop?

    Welfare reform

No question that someone is getting the money, but just like many charitable organizations and donations for disasters, a great deal of it isn't going where it's intended. And most are like the assistance offered for "idle reduction technology" [usually an APU]. When you look into the programs...

Franklin Graham and the cultural battles.

But how often does that happen? None of the laws being passed by conservative legislators [on 'religious rights' or abortion] are in response to popular vote, they're just proposed and passed without the public's input. I don't know about the "mainstream media", but doesn't the fact that it is...

ISIS captures 2,300 U.S. Humvees in Iraq.

Not too polite, IRT, it's just that if we correct every misspelling, we get finger cramps. [ BTW, you misspelled 'do', lol.] :D

    Welfare reform

http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=645993 Interesting info here. The list of programs in DaveKC's post is a lot like the Help Wanted ads in the newspapers: try applying for any of them, see what you get.

    Welfare reform

Just gotta love what some consider "proof": 100% anecdotal, all the way. But then, "There is nothing you can't prove, if your outlook is only sufficiently limited." [Lord Peter Wimsey]

    Welfare reform

Advocating denial of benefits that would feed & clothe babies and children is proof of the lack of genuine concern for babies & children claimed by anti choice people. They don't giveadam about these babies, period. And anyone who believes that women [in any real numbers] have more babies to...

John Wesley must be so proud

I don't think being noisy and unruly is morally reprehensible [though it's personally annoying, unless I'm doing it too, lol], I was referring to the binge drinking. Alcohol abuse is a big problem on campuses, and fraternities play a large part in that. Even the ones that never make the news...

    Gun free warship

Just further proof that people see what they want, and then stop looking. Also that they read the headlines, [and maybe the bullet points] but not much more. Then they are "informed", and they spread the news.

The Happiest Day of My Life

You're in for the roller coaster ride of your life, lol, and Tiffany looks like the coolest companion to enjoy it with! Have fun! [Like you need to be told, lol] :)

    Transethnic?

Biracial kids very often feel more comfortable with one side of their racial heritage than the other - it's hard to be accepted by both. I understand that, and think maybe this woman is like them, just because of her adopted siblings. Or maybe she really does have some psychological 'issues'...

    Transethnic?

That's why I dislike the term African American: most black people aren't from Africa, nor do they have recent ancestors who were, so why the distinction? Only the Italian Americans ever felt motivated to identify themselves that way, and only when [and because] the Mafia was giving all Italians...

John Wesley must be so proud

Again, depends on your definitions of "rowdy" and "morally reprehensible". There have been a LOT of news stories about the campus culture of excusing 'hazing', excessive drinking, and rape. Not every frat house engages in all of them, but enough are guilty of some of them that it is a disgrace...

    Transethnic?

The NAACP stands for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. Where in there does it require one to be a 'colored person' to be part of that? It's like men can be feminists - and the really smart ones are, lol. :angelic:

    Transethnic?

I found none of the allegations of her listing African American on applications, and the NAACP said they don't require anyone, even the chairman, to actually be 'colored people'. [ I dislike the term African American - aren't we all Something American?] I have Native American in my ancestry...

    Transethnic?

There's all kinds of different stories about her family and personal history, so it's hard to know whether she is sincerely wanting to help her black sibs [more than one, all adopted], but it doesn't appear that she's ever used her "ethnicity" for gain - at least, not in a way that would be...
