You raise a good point. On one hand, if seating and TV is provided, one might reasonably assume that it would be OK to watch a football game there. On the other hand, these clubs are made for working out. Other members may think you creepy for malingering and you could get reported simply...

Can You Quantify EOBR $$$ Benefits?

That's exactly the kind of example I was looking for. Note that with a driver who does regular runs and is working regular shifts on a regular schedule, it may indeed be possible to prove that an EOBR that logs by the minute can put more money in one's pocket. But, I maintain, with expediters...

Can You Quantify EOBR $$$ Benefits?

I had a conversation today with an owner-operator who claims that you can make more money with an EOBR in your truck than when using paper logs. The assertion is that the EOBR saves you time, money and effort and is therefore more profitable. I agree that an EOBR saves you time and effort in...

    12 step programs

Diane and I are debt free but seeing the rave reviews of the Ramsey book, I bought it to read. Maybe there will be something new to learn or a refinement to make in our money management practices.

    Skirts

I have seen the 3% to 7% figures widely cited by skirt manufacturers, regulators with a self-justification agenda and fleets that have a desire to look good in the eyes of the EPA and CARB. But what about real-world sources? Who is out there actually driving skirted trailers that rave about the...

    Skirts

That is true, of course. And if you could save 5% a year, the money saved would be even more and if you could save even 2% a year, you would save money. All true by definition. But the real question is, CAN you save 3% a year? Do you know of anyone out there in the real world who has actually...

What people exactly, and what do you mean by "significant?" I have seen some real-world driver reports of a modest improvement but those are not universal.

That's good to know. Diane and I rely on that web site to check out the gyms before visiting them. So far, it has been 100% accurate. We would not go to a gym that did not have showers.

Are there showers at that location in addition to or in the restrooms? The ATF web site says there are private showers there. Is that correct or not?

T1000 maybe 3rd time is the charm

Do you replace the fans or just the brushes on the fan electric motors? On our Carrier Supra 850, replacing the brushes is a scheduled maintenance item. We had a fan stop once and new brushes fixed it. All evaporator fans on our six-year-old reefer are original. None have had to be replaced.

    Skirts

In the Expediters section of Hank's Truck Pictures Forum, you can see this photo of a straight truck with sleeper that has skirts. I've seen these trucks running in New York. The skirts serve their purpose, I would think, but do not blend well with the rest of the truck.

What are the Roads You'd Rather Not Travel?

One of my least favorite roads in the U.S. is I-76 through Pennsylvania. We avoid that road whenever we can. If eastbound, we go south on I-79 soon after entering Pennsylvania and pick up I-68. That avoids the perpetual road construction, toll and the many trucks that roar past you up and down...

What are the Roads You'd Rather Not Travel?

In the Loveland Pass thread, Layoutshooter named that stretch of US-6 the "second worst road we have driven on to date." Dabluzman1 said, "I'd place this high on my list of roads I'd rather not travel, right along with 299 in northern California." These comments raise the question, what are the...

    FEDEX CC folks

These days, how does FedEx Custom Critical White Glove Services compare to Panther's Elite Services? How does a Panther contractor or driver get on "the list?" Is the list administered the same or different than at FedEx Custom Critical?

That is intentional. The company could clarify the list rules in an instant and stick to their guns (follow the rules without execption) but they don't. Why don't they? I do not know, but it is reasonable to conclude that since they do what they do in case after case and year after year, it is...

jbrand, the White Glove list has been mentioned in this thread. Note how the information about it differs depending on who talks about it. That was how it was when Diane and I were with the company. We got flagged as White Glove contractors before we hauled our first load with FedEx Custom...

What Do You Know About Loveland Pass in Colorado?

Loveland Pass (US-6 in Colorado) came to Diane's and my attention today as we researched the rules about the Eisenhower Tunnel (Colorado I-70) and HAZMAT. We were allowed to use the tunnel and thereby avoided the US-6, Loveland Pass route. We have never been over Loveland Pass. Looking at this...
