    This is not a one size fits all business.What is adequate home time for one is not what the next person would like. It also makes a big difference in weather you run a van or a truck with a sleeper. For us we are out 3 to 5 weeks then 4 or 5 days home.

    I am sure glad I drive an old junker when on my time off.(I.E. 85 Merc) I hit a deer inside the city limits in Fort Wayne In. The only damage was to the cheap plastic grille. A newer car would probably be thousands. If he had totalled the car,I would be out a few hundred bucks.

    Extra batteries...

    If installing the batteries inside the van, be sure to use deep cycle AIRCRAFT type batteries. They are sealed and will not emit dangerous fumes. You can also have a welding shop build a below the floor box. I know PJ Body shop in Canton Ohio has fabricated this kind of set up.

    I have developed a habit I will share.Maybe it will work for you. Any time a card comes out of my wallet,my wallet remains in my hand untill that card goes back in that wallet. There are often a lot of distractions that go on at that fuel desk.
