    Groceries

My belief is that we may not take the lodging per diem, but some truckers claim the deduction. Keep the receipts and deduct the actual expenses. You can also deduct books, CDs, DVDs, watchdogs, watch cats, showers, cosmetics and anything else that you can imagine that will fit on the "office"...

waves freeze when hitting shore of Newfoundland

Four years out of Kodiak. We moored in Old Womans Bay, around the corner from Kodiak Harbor. Spent a lot of time in and out of the aleutians, the Bering Sea and a few times up and down the Inland Passage. I concur on the incredible scenery; we had the snow capped Barometer Mountain out of the...

waves freeze when hitting shore of Newfoundland

This old Ice Breaker sailor has seen similar occurrences in Alaska where sheet ice, covering a harbor or bay, is wind driven onto the shore. It breaks up in a manner just like that youtube example. Waves don't freeze in mid-air, but it sure looks like they do.

    Sprinter Tires

The Michelin LTX will easily last 180,000 miles at the COSTCO price of $755. This price includes mounting, valve stems, balance and lifetime rotate and balance at any Costco tire store. 180,000 miles worth of David's Firestone Transforce HT tires would cost $556. A saving of $50 per tire...

    Sprinter Tires

I've had several sets of the 245/75R16 Mich LTX on Chev and Ford vans. My last set was retired at 180,000 and had an average 4/32" when I did so. I could easily have matched your friend at 200K miles. COSTCO sells the E rated LTX for $755.46, out the door.

    Canada Crossing with pets...

years ago, we traveled with a small dog in our van. One a crossing into Canada at Sarnia, a Canadian Customs agent chewed us out for not having a shot record paper for the dog, we had a rabies tag, but no certificate. We were allowed into Canada but immediately upon returning home, we got...

    Cargo Van: Side Door Loading

No! There are many standard sized pallets. 48" x 48" and 48" x 40" are the most common. We also see many 48" tubs. You could selectively use the side door but shouldn't count on it always being a choice, regarless what the customer, broker or dispatchers says on the phone. I'm talking about...

    Cargo Van: Side Door Loading

Rear doors and a pallet puller or equivalent. The side doors on all but the newest Sprinters are too narrow, at about 46", to accomodate a standard sized pallet. If you are planning to get into the "expedite business" you'll have noticed that most of us tend to stay on the road awhile to...

    Age and FedEx CC

For the benefit of those that might be eavesdropping, here is the answer to the same question that was asked in the General Forum. Authorized passengers over the age of 21 are permitted in a FedEx Custom Critical vehicle while under dispatch when proof of passenger insurance has been filed...

whats a cargo van driven for an owner make a week?

A cargo van owner/operator leased to an expedite carrier could reasonably expect to gross between $45,000 and $80,000, some more and some less. A driver for an owner usually agrees to a 40/60 split so you could expect to net $18K to $32K. Expediting is a cyclical business with busy days...

    Groceries

It would be unreasonable to think that you could buy $20 worth of food to prepare in your truck, take the tax deduction, and then take the $52 Standard meal allowance deduction. The IRS regulations are clear that you may deduct actual expenses for food OR deduct the Standard meal allownance...

    '05 Sprinter 100,000 miles, just a headsup

Raycal: Could it be that some of your Sprinter problems were caused by towing 10,000 pounds across country in a beat to death van. I didn't comment on the post where you mentioned the heavy duty towing but it would be wise for our other Sprinter owners not to follow in your path of exceeding...

Can a van driver in Chicago make good $$

Dog: One man's good money is another's poverty, and yet another man's wealth. Chicago, however, is a great inbound and outbound expedited freight area. Van operators from greater Chicagoland generally do as well, or better, from there as most any other location west of the east coast.

    Husband and wife team

I didn't pay much attention to BradBetty's weekly numbers until Leo mentioned it. Like Leo, I have never operated a TVal truck but I know of several operators that would be very pleased with an annual Gross of $225,000. An owner that pays all truck fuel, toll, wash, etc. expenses would give...
