Personally I'd go with the barn doors. I have never driven a cube van with a roll-up door but I have pulled many trailers with roll-up doors. I could hear the doors rattle from the cab. Sharing the same space with a roll-up door only 12' behind me would probably drive me crazier.

I wonder if a defective guibo could be the cause of torque convertor shudder and differential noise. If a worn, cracked guibo allows some slop in the driveshaft, couldn't that result in a shudder, noise and potential damage to components at both ends of the driveshaft?

I just noticed that the Penske cube pictured doesn't have a roof fairing. That could cost you a mile per gallon, maybe more.

3:42 rears with the 6 speed should get 16 mpg if driven conservatively.

My guess is that a Penske cube spec'd with a 4.8 also comes with a 4:11 axle ratio. Even with the 6 speed transmission, the 4:11 rears will probably kill your fuel economy.
