    New trucker tax

It would be worse than IFTA. People who can't manage their own money always want someone else to pay their way.

OK. What is the best company to drive for?

The best company? The one you haven't driven for yet.... Seriously though, there are options for you. What has been said about being at the end of the line IS true, but there are possibilities. I like what T-Hawk suggested. Whether just an in-state carrier, or an interstate one, finding one...

    Load 1

The fact that the Load 1's CEO likes to interact on this site with owner operators speaks volumes.

Panther & Expeditors Services. Why so slow?

Not busy in the Midwest? Hmmm. Remember all of those GM plants that closed last year? Remember those other plants that closed? Maybe the info regarding the Midwest being "expediter central" is now obsolete. Might be playing by different rules now.....

    Broker late pay

Hey Rockytop, If you don't mind me asking, "How late were they in paying you?" We never found out if they were just longer in paying, but had paid you nonetheless, or were they stiffing you. You may not get far legally if the only issue is as you said they were "stretching out" their pay...

    New charges coming at Pilot

Me too. Haven't found one yet that wasn't a dirty hole. Oh wait! Kenly, NC. But they customized that bad boy until it's more of a flea market than truckstop. That store is ALWAYS empty.

CEVA to shutter Plainfield, IN operations

If that office did close, it wouldn't necessarily mean the loss of Amazon. They would just hire a cartage agent to handle the p & d for them.

    Broker late pay

If you want, throw me the name and address in a private message. I might be able to cross-check them for you. These are times when you must check on some of these folks weekly, to see if they are still compliant. Note: Paying slow may anger you, but they may still be payers. I had one...

    border mexico

Well, I've been over the border a few times for personal travel/pleasure. It's been enough to know that I don't want to go down there for business. With all of the recent drug wars going on, it just reinforces my opinion of the place.

    Broker late pay

Rocky, It all comes down to your contract. What are the days to pay listed on the contract? Also, how many loads does this broker owe you and for what kind of percentage of what you haul for total? Are we talking a drop from 30 days to 45-50 days, or are we talking many months?

What is a TSA certified driver?

It is called a Security Threat Assessment. TSA will not deal with a motor carrier, per se. This is about Indirect Air Carriers. The carrier or driver is listed as an agent of said IAC, therefore, the TSA wants to know about you. It may have changed slightly in the last year or so. When it...

    One of my worst fears

There are still some folks in the freight world that demand originals unfortunately. LEA finally went to full permission for scanning not too long ago. Landstar Logistics always allowed scans or fax. Landstar Carrier Group (Ranger, Inway, etc.) allows scans, but only by third-party services...

    Own authority/broker a good idea?

Yes, Mr. Blizzard, you ARE an ambassador for your carrier. As you may or may not know, I am familiar with the owner of said carrier, and your reputation preceeds you. Ya just don't get a lot, unless you're faithful with a little. Nice job! It definitely does not go unnoticed.

    Own authority/broker a good idea?

It's sad that service isn't obvious to some people. All they think about is themselves. Sometimes going just a little bit beyond personal convenience in communication can set you apart from the crowd. Interesting story: Recently, a Landstar agent that we do a LOT of business for told me...

What place do you like to fuel at?

Until the J takes Comdata again, I won't really be back. They do have clean showers almost all of the time. Pilots are a toss up on showers. Depends on the owner. Had more decent ones than not. Love's are clean. T/A showers are all old and dirty. I like the coffee at Love's and Pilot's, as...

    Who's killing the rates?

Well, I wouldn't waste my time trying to pry anyone's customer away from them. There are plenty of people who need our services these days. They don't always know who to call when they need it, or if they are comparing apples to apples, service-wise. As far as "contracted customers", I'm...

    Who's killing the rates?

Yes Piper, you may very well be able to fit that load on a Sprinter. But don't be looking for me to pay your dry run for your little experiment, should you get run off the property for not being dock high.

    Own authority/broker a good idea?

I think over the last three years, I've averaged around 25 different companies we've done loads for per year.

I will definitely watch out for that. :)
