Is it the ECONOMY? Or are we to blame for the low rates?

Ohh yes, I still shake my head when memorys of some of the clowns i've incountered in this biz. Had one fella sitting in South Dakota one day and turned down better'n 4K of freight going south or west, because he had contracted to save $50 for each service on his truck, and needed to get...

    Suggestions?

When such would arise for our drivers/contractors, i'd look at other trucking companys or partner carriers, they usually have room, security, etc. Just left the camping machine in such a place for a week for a cruise. Have your dispatcher or owner do the requesting. It's usually more...

Is it the ECONOMY? Or are we to blame for the low rates?

Charles....that is far and away to tuff a math question for most. They jes no comprendo. I had numerous folks tell me as drivers they would drive for me at 60% of $1.50, but wouldn't touch the truk for 50% of two buks. Go figgure the new math when you git numbers stuck in your head.

Would you run for a company if they had this?

Too time consuming to double, triple up to allow satisfactory revenue.

Would you run for a company if they had this?

Consider the savings there G if you looked for a company that operated like we used to.... 0 deductions; 0 escrow; cell phones; 0 holdback; FJ fuelcard. We used an inexpensive gps mounted in the box for required tracking of loads. Simple, efficient and effective I never contracted...

On duty time includes waiting to be dispatched.

IF, your concerns truly are if you are running legal in face of the 2010 thing, I don't believe i'd be looking at what J.J. Keller has to say. You may want to read thru the FMSCA "lil green book" your carrier gave you. A sure fix tho to ease your mind, would be to git a room between...

Whats the longest you've ever sat?? And where was it???

Greg, there are many that I categoy as "too flexable or extremely inflexable" that are no longer in the business. BamaMule comes to mind in the inflexable column. The bright spot is....that the flexible still have the ability to learn. If they are about to.

Been off road for 7 yrs.who will hire me??

I'd suggest you contact a Company who's owner still drives a bit. See about teaming with the owner if he has a interest in running team. I'm sure IF you are worth your salt, and not just another steering wheel holder, you will be able to find a ride. I'd stay away from the Company with too...

Has anyone experienced a noticeable increase in business as a result of the recall?? Or, are they orchestrating truck load and LTL to take care of the moves?

Whats the longest you've ever sat?? And where was it???

Back in the ealy days of fedup, I sat in Dayton, OH amongst a glut of trucks for 5 days. After I had clawed my way to #1, the message came that I was out of service until I sent a recert of my blood pressure (seems the long sheet was blurred and they couldn't read it) Needless to say, that...

    more info on bolt

OVM, you bad, after that sob story. Took 3 months to find a "under priced" van? I wonder what it really cost (considering the down time)? Seems to me that light weight van you were running don't owe you anything blizzard, seems it made you some money, BUT, sometimes it's way better to...

Is it the ECONOMY? Or are we to blame for the low rates?

I don't feel it's a matter if you can "afford" to sit, as in my case I would choose not to sit. Particularly, in NJ this time of year. I'd much prefer to continue to run NJ-CA for $1.93, steada two buks to have something to do. Those that think $175-$200, more or less is the end of the world...

    Dumb Question

The operative words in my post were "a minimum of". It is really way too bad that so many really don't understand, or care for that matter, what it takes to support you. That is precisely why when I had too much business for two trucks to begin to handle, I decided to help some folks to...

    Dumb Question

Been my experience that the better you learn em, and the more business savy you share, and the more tools you provide, the sooner they will leave and start their own company. Also, the better you pay them, the more time off they want, insteada making a nest egg. I'd suggest for every...

    Would you work for this.

Oh yes!! Me tink this'll be some interesting read when all this research and theory meets reality on the street. Given the restrictions that FIFO, sighning in, dwell time, etc, imposes on a truck out there, I have never understood why a truck would ever go out of service while out in the mix...
