    What would you do?

Seeing that no one has given a reply, I can say something. I’m not super familiar with V3, but Panther is really big, which would seem great, but I hear a lot of drivers get lost in the shuffle. The best person to ask would be the owners, since they’re leased on, they’re in the same boat you...

Cargo Van Taking the plunge soon, advice appreciated

Hello All! I started driving over a year ago, cargo van. Moved to flat bed and ran it for 6 months. Took some time off to ponder life while working a local job, and am finally committing to go owner operator with Van. I have experience, but I still gat that nervous feeling, so I thought I’d...

    Nervous newbie

We all know what you’re going through. I was fortunate enough to buy a house near family for a very small amount of money, $20k. When I was on the road with the sprinter van, and I was single, I literally shut off water, sewer, and garbage utilities, and only kept electric on. I have a...

    Hotshot Flatbed Equipment

Yes, you most definitely want to have Both Straps AND Chains. I believe there is more money in Hotshot Flatbed because it’s much easier to find a load, in fact I never sat 24 hours without a load. Also, you have a large amount of space for loads so you can carry multiple. It wasn’t uncommon to...

    Avoiding toll roads

My 2 cents. I use google maps, which gives me the option to avoid tolls or not. It will even say “avoid tolls” in a bar above the route given in the directions layout. I always avoided as many tolls as possible, mostly because it always seemed to circle around and come out of my pocket anyway...

Cargo Van Best Van to Buy

I’m posting this in the noob section because it’s such a noob question. I had 6 months experience in a Dodge/Mercedes 2500 diesel Sprinter Van. I loved the taller ceiling. I hated every time there was an issue it was a problem finding a diesel mechanic to even work on it, and no matter what, it...

    Hotshot Flatbed Equipment

I wanted to update, been doing it for a little time now. If I could go back in time and answer rookie me’s questions, i’d say this. Get 5 chains and 5 binders, don’t skimp and buy the 12’ chain at 5k lbs. Get the 20’ chains. Also, get ratchet binders. They work the best. Straps get 15 if you...

Hot Shot/ Expediated advise 2008 Dodge Ram 1500

The problems you are going to run into are age and weight of vehicle. I have a 2009 Chevy Silverado 1500 and looked into it as well. First, you’re only going to be able to haul 3,000-3,500lbs and as everyone else on this forum already know, Vans can carry that. The fact that you’ll have to pull...

    Hotshot Flatbed Equipment

Updating in case anyone wants to read the process of getting into Hotshot. In a few weeks now, kind of got it down, a few weak points, but overall, rolling a LOT smoother now. The chains and the straps 6/10 have been appropriate. I have gotten away from paper logs and am on electronic logs...

    Which ELD to insta

Thank you. I was drawn to the keep trucking eld. Is there a way to adjust the 5mph auto switch to driving up to 10-15? If I was in a parking lot and moved spots i could easily tap fuel too hard and exceed 5mph.

    Question about Van refrigeration

This is what I was initially thinking. A person could set up a small generator, insulate the back area where flowers would be stored, and put in a smaller window AC, mount in the back door. This way you don’t have to idle the vehicle and potentially save a lot of $ instead of buying a set reefer...

    Which ELD to insta

Most people on this forum is exempt from ELDs, Great For You! Now, for the rest of us, December 18, 2017 is crunch time. I see videos of people installing ELDs in tractors, but I never see it in a 3/4 ton pickup. Anyone else on this forum know much about these, or could suggest a ELD brand...

    Hotshot Flatbed Equipment

Thank you all for responding. Give a quick update: First, I was told it was a DOT approved sleeper, it obviously is not. I honestly don’t know what to do about this... Second, I do have class A cdl and running a logbook, always putting myself out of service, Never I’m sleeper birth, hopefully...

    Hotshot Flatbed Equipment

I've been put on hold for another 2 weeks. Seems the insurance agent put down 500k liability, not 1 million, which throws off this week. Next week I have some personal going on. I ended up buying 10 straps, and adding my extra 5, should be plenty of straps. The weight is why I actually was...

Did you leave a good paying job to get into this business?

I don't require a lot of money to be happy, so straight up, if I was single, I’d buy a cargo van, set it up exactly how I would want it, and just go out and enjoy life while making decent money at the same time. But I’m in a relationship, and I’m not 100% yet on wanting to take her out with me...

    1-ton Box Truck choice

The vehicles that seem to be safely within the weight limits are sprinter and cargo vans. There are debates on if the small box trucks really are within the weight because often the weight posted on the door of the vehicles were posted as a cab and chassis. So heads up, often if you have dual...

    the great ? which truck

Well as far as a home goes that’s very personal. I know driving the sprinter that if I had all that room for simply personal use I could have been as comfortable in it as much as say a airstream camper. But it sounds like you’re looking more for a box truck, like the Ryder type vehicles that...

    Hotshot Flatbed Equipment

I never thought about that, you could put skids side by side all the way down. I have 5 straps so adding 7 would be 12, so I actually thought 7 was overkill. Again, I can only carry 9,500lbs but do you think I need to have a 4 set of chains and binders as well? And I’m clueless on tarps.

Looking to borrow a straight truck for training

I would check on Craigslist or any other local advertisers, for a CDL company that will walk you through the test and let you use the vehicle for your test on the same day. It cost me $550, far cheaper than any CDL school and you get the inside scoop on what it takes to pass.
