What is a glad hand ?

We have this and boy is it handy. Sometimes we get leaves in the cab of the truck and we can just blow them out of if crevices get dirt in them the vacuum wont get that also comes in handy. Bob also checks the tires when we are sitting and can inflate them if needed. Very handy.

how upset would you get and what would you do

I am CHEAP! The dollar fee drove me nuts and it doesnt cost anything to transfer from the bank. We have to pay a 1.00 fee to load the card and then a 1.00 fee to transfer the money and that takes care of all the interest you earn. It is very easy to transfer the money online from bank to bank...

how upset would you get and what would you do

We felt the ComData fees where also unreasonable but we liked the ease of using a card and the discounts. We signed up for a TAB account with Flying J and now transfer money from our checking account to our Tab Account. Not only do you not pay fees with Flying J you get interest on the money...

    brakeing in

Talk to recruiters from the various companies and they will give you the average income for the different sized trucks. You will then need to list what you have to have to make your personal payments. Then you can research the forums and get basically what it costs to run a truck. Each of us...

6 weeks in and deeply disillusioned

There are a couple of things I don’t understand on this post. Rigorous Orientation, which sure does not sound like FEDEX Custom Critical or paying broker fees. We have found FedEx to be very accurate with their bookkeeping and I do watch our income very closely. We also found that what our...

    House versus Apartment

I have been under the impression that if you only lived in your truck you could not take the per diem exemption on your taxes. Have you heard that? It is to bad you are back into that rut after finding out how much easier it is to not have those worries.

    House versus Apartment

We are presently living in an apartment with our oldest daughter. We had a house the first part of our trucking career. We had a nice house with acreage that we really enjoyed. We found that out on the road we worried about our home a lot. When we went home we had lots to do as for some...

    Home Time

We have our budget set up by the month. We try to plan our home time on a month that has 5 pay periods. This doesn't seem to hurt the checking account as much this way. We also schedule any maintenance that needs to be one to the truck that we can during this time.

What is a glad hand ?

Yes there is but they are seldom used. On the truck there is usually a place on the truck to hook the glad hands and the pig tail to keep them stable and clean. Most are just flopped on the deck though. You can also purchase covers in most truck stops.

But where is the fun in that? No challenge, I like it complicated! Give me my QuickBooks and Quicken any day of the week and lots of categories.

    Baskin Robbins?

Craig, you are right 1.50 all miles for any load when you are not a specialized truck? We have a hard time saying what our bottom line is that we will take a load for. Depends on the direction, toll roads, weight and other considerations. We are also not opposed if we are asked to take a solo...

    Rules for Dispatchers

We feel after being with a large over the road company that our dispatchers are the cream of the crop for the most part. We have had a few give us really wrong information and a very few actually be rude never have we been hung up on or screamed at. We are very seldom left on hold unless we are...

Hours Of Service & driver retention dilemmas

When was the last time you have seen an officer wandering around a truck stop asking every truck to show log books? Even then how many times when you go through a scale do they even ask to see your log book? You need to be ready when going through a scale to show a log book but the percentage...

    Uncle Sam go away!!!!

We have had the same trouble as you trying to find a local accountant. We have just located a new one that just handles trucks, does not require you to send all your receipts, and appears rather knowledgeable about our business. His firm was recommended by another driver but as we have not had...
