    Income?

Gross revenues of upper 50's to low 60's is not out of the question for a solo van. At least it wasn't a couple of years ago, and from what I read on this board, business is better now than before. Hope others share their current gross revenues for comparison.

    California loads

If you are driving solo, you will have to assume that you will never get a load to the west coast. However, some companies (fedexcc??) might be able to keep you busy running up and down the west coast and the Nevada, Arizona, Colorado areas. Another thought is to just accept the fact that you...

    Miles and loads

OldProf..... some food for thought for you.... If I took a load to an area where I knew I'd probably sit a couple of days waiting for a load, I wouldn't sit, I'd ask to be bonused out to a better load area, and if not, I'd just drive empty at my own expense to a better area. I'd rather pay my...

    Truck size and logbooks

Will I have to log in a class C truck? What's the weight line between logging and not logging? What's the weight range on a class C truck with an average sized sleeper? How high is up??? Thanks.

    Just a few noob questions..

Try the big companies.....Tri-State, Fed-ex, Panther II...and their recruiters will tell you if your van meets their size requirements. The companies will usually arrange for required insurance and deduct it from your settlements. You don't really need a business name, but that's up to you...

    I'm being recruited.

You might want to check the OOIDA website to look at comments on PRIME. General rule I've heard is don't lease from the company that gives you the loads. After you work for quite a while and the truck is getting paid for, all of a sudden your loads decrease, you don't make a lot of money, you...

    Cargo Van write-off

Is it true that under some special legislation a business can purchase a new cargo van and write-off the entire amount in the year of purchase? I think there was a minimum weight required. If so, can the mileage deduction still be used for an additional source of income reduction? Thanks

    Lady Expediters

How about an up-date? Still going to orientation? Would be interesting to get your thoughts after orientation, and when you get your first few loads.

Lease agreement for drivers of O/O

I agree that detention time should go to both owner and driver. Here's why. Detention time is paid to compenssate you for lost time. You can't deliver the current load, you can't unload it, you can't get on the board for a new load offer, whatever. So some detention pay is owed to somebody...

Lease agreement for drivers of O/O

One thing that has to be remembered in all of these relationships is that the Internal Revenue Service is always checking for independent contractor vs. employee status. That's one of the reasons, allegedly, why some of the companies do so little for the owners/drivers......they have to avoid...

Lease agreement for drivers of O/O

Any agreement, to be fair, must have consideration flowing to both sides. So, what do drivers think is fair to include to protect the owner? A driver has the owners vehicle, which is an investment of $25,000 to 150,000. A driver can use that possession to "negotiate" a little with the owner...

    $ per mile

I believe Tri-State pays .80 per mile loaded. Also pays .15 for deadhead miles to pick up load (after first 50 miles), and to be relocated to a busier location. The loaded miles are current info, the bonus info is a year old, but I believe it is still the same.

Items to carry in a Cargo Van

I forgot about your question regarding sleeping arrangements. I built a sleeping area, two foot wide plywood board, set on top of two U-shaped brackets which then fit into the load locks and into the e-track, sidewise behind the seats. I could leave it up if didn't need all of the load space...

Items to carry in a Cargo Van

I used various sized plastic waste baskets or stands for my personal/business stuff, then bungee-corded them to the walls. One had extra oil, windshield washer fluid, anti-freeze, etc. Another had straps, tow belts to pull out the second pallet, gloves, extra serpentine belt, spare bulbs, etc...

    gas vs. diesel

Thanks for the responses. I drove previously and ran a GMC 3500 extended, 5.7L gas. It got 16 mpg after break-in, sometimes 15, a little more than 16 on the last few legs begore I sold it. I am not familiar with the new GM gas engines, nor do I know anything concrete about current diesel...

    gas vs. diesel

Any significant differences in driving/maintenance expenses between gas (GMC) and diesel (Ford) vans?? I've already calculated differences in purchasing price of both vans and types of fuel and assumed 5 extra mpg for a ford diesel. Figured GMC at 16mpg, Ford diesel at 21 mpg. How about oil...

    Tri State Expediting

I used to run a solo van with Tri-State, also had drivers with them. I never had a problem, rarely had complaints and then they got resolved quickly with driver resolution, never had a pay problem unless I caused it (like mailing in my paperwork too late to make the weekly payday), and always...
